Our friends at iHeartComix, Mad Decent, and Fool’s Gold have joined forces for what seems to be THE party to attend this year at SxSW in Austin. Boasting by far the largest dance music lineup of the week,#SUPERPARTY will take place at the former Beauty Ballroom on Thursday the 14th and will be open to fans of all ages from noon until 2AM. We’ll, of course, be making this a stop on our upcoming #GDDRV tour, and after seeing this lineup, we couldn’t be more thrilled to attend our very first SxSW event.
It had been a just a few short days since Alex Ridha, the dark techno overlord better known as Boys Noize, had completed a monumental two night stand at the now sadly and inexplicably dormant Music Box in Hollywood (soon to be reopened once again as The Henry Fonda). Yet it was midweek, a Tuesday, and the children still wanted their techno.
In a more intimate setting than the previous two gigs, and in a part of town regarded for being a bit more accepting of doing something different, Boys Noize laid down one of the most eclectic and exhilarating sets I’ve ever seen him perform.
Above you can capture a 37+ minute snippet of the madness, and after the jump a conversation with him and legendary producer/DJ Switch, who also threw down that night. If you’re not familiar with the Check Yo Ponytail! crew who put on the show, get familiar.
By the beard of Zeus was it hot in Los Angeles today! Someone told me that it hit 113 degrees in downtown which is restoring my faith and concern in global warming. Good thing the Penthouse is in close proximity to the magnificent Pacific Ocean. Anyway, this trifecta of turbulent tunage will definitely not cool you down, but who can dance dirty without getting a little hot n’ bothered? Get these goodies before they evaporate into the stratosphere!
These two are probably my favorite remixes of the smash hit by Cajmere AKA Curtis Jones AKA Green Velvet, although the Major Lazer and Riva Starr versions are very admirable as well. Pick up the entire Percolator Package on iTunes or Beatport. Oh, and just a little announcement; Claude VonStroke and Dada Life will both be coming to CONTROL at the Avalon in October and November, respectively. Yeeeeeehaw.
Our fellow LA resident Paparazzi just sent this over for a GDD™ exclusive release today. Big synth + Alexis’ vocals = always a good time. Paparazzi is currently working on an original EP and a few other remixes as well as planning to reinstate the famous Check Yo Ponytail party in a couple months along with iHeartComix‘ Franki Chan and Media Contender‘s Danny Johnson. Keep your peepers peeled!
