Earlier this year, I had the pleasure of traveling south to Mexico for a few shows where I linked up with Bufi, one of the country’s brightest artists. Not only did he guide me to the best taco joints around Mexico City, he’s also cultivated quite a rad scene in one of the most populated places in the world. This week, his latest solo EP dropped on Mexican imprint Eleqtrique Music. Rooted in disco and tinged with elements of synth-pop and house, the two-track EP is infectiously groovy. You can pick up the release over at Juno.

Our man in Mexico, disco + house producer Bufi, has quite the portfolio of remixes. On those remixes, his diversity shines through. Whether it’s dark disco (Little Dragon), slo-mo house (Goldroom) or a proper club tune (Hot Chip) you seek, Bufi has got you covered. This time around Bufi has a go at another compadre of ours, Viceroy. Released in late January, “Dream of Bombay” (featuring the lovely vocals of Chela), is Viceroy at his finest. Bufi takes the disco-electro, new wave sound of the original & punches it into hyperspace – interstellar disco + Hawaiian shirts in space!
Gotta Dance Dirty has teamed up with Bufi to create a truly special night south of the border in Mexico City, hence entitled Borderline. The best talent from around the world in disco, indie-dance, and deep house will be on display at the beautiful and hip Rhodesia. This Thurday we have Moon Boots strait outta Chicago, Pat Lok hailing from Vancouver, Our own Tropicool, & Bufi the Mexico City Local. This is definitely one you don’t want to miss! If you’re one of our pals already residing down south, find event details HERE
What Better way to kick off a new Night, than with an exclusive mix from Pat Lok himself!
Event details & Tunes After the Jump
Mexican producer Bufi is quickly rising as one of my favorite artists of 2012. With a distinct disco tinge to all of his tunes, they’re clearly made with the dancefloor in mind. The extended mix of ‘Will Be’ has been a secret weapon in my sets for the last few weeks, and he’s giving away 100 copies for those lucky few that are quick on the draw. The rest will have to head over to Juno and pick up the EP there that was released today on Electrique Music. For those of you living in New York, he has a few dates this month. Check those and the EP after the drop.
