Our friends at HARD are putting on one hell of a stage this August at HARD Summer here in Los Angeles — celebrating a decade of music from the lauded Ed Banger family with performances from Justice, Busy P, Breakbot, Feadz, Mr. Oizo, So Me, and more for the only US performance of the 10 Year Anniversary World Tour. WOW.

To those of you that toss & turn in your bed, who find themselves wondering why no channels cater to insomniacs, who grit their teeth at people who get a full eight hours of sleep each night, science has offered up nice little drug called zolpidem to coax them into dreamland. I’m sure you’ve all heard of Ambien, right? Welp, that’s Zolpidem.

Zolpidem is a prescribed drug that very successfully helps to initiate sleep in an individual who ingests it. In the action of helping someone fall asleep, I find that there are some truly special tracks that work in a similar light to Zolpidem. Not to say the songs are boring, and like Zolpidem, if you force yourself to stay awake can have very different effects indeed. (Note: I do not condone doing this with Zolpidem… nor will these songs make you hallucinate…) Right, so after you brush your teeth and tuck yourself in, press play on these songs below & start drifting away…………

If you were with us last Sunday when Breakbot opened for Chromeo @ Drais Hollywood, you knew RIGHT when he jumped on the decks after hearing him open his set with this classic disco jam. The original track was made in 1980 by 13 year old Stacy Lattisaw, and Breakbot simply beefs it up with that signature Ed Banger studio quality. Get your serious groove on with this one folks.

“The waves ≠ raves consists of hand-picked gems that inspire us, tickling and tempting our creative juices. Some are old, some are new, but it is what we are listening to now. They are groovey, flowing, and sun-kissed just like that perfect wave. They are uplifting and guaranteed to put a smile on your face. They sound the best with a babe in one hand, a cold brewski in the other, and the sand beneath your feet. Stay Dreamy.”

Foreword from Viceroy:
While the music market continues to grow into an ‘over saturation’ of electronic blogs, the majority of them seem to only know how to post those same absolute jams that their competition managed to post in previous features. That alone is not enough to make a blog stand out in my mind. I have been and always will be a huge fan of Gotta Dance Dirty. Why? They not only have the most up to date jams from the big dogs, but they support up and coming artists too. How many well-established blogs do that? I can’t name many. Supporting my summery beats since I started in February, Gotta Dance Dirty has given me the honor of hand selecting the tracks for Waves ≠ Raves Mixtape Vol. 14. Looking for some sun-kissed disco to cap off your summer fun? Look no further.

Enjoy, and stay frothy my friends.

“Fantasy” by super funk master Breakbot is one of those songs that you listen to and play over and over again and wish the track were longer than its three minute run time.  Fortunately for us, legendary remixer Arthur Baker comes to the rescue with his eight minute plus “Return to Disco New York Mix”.  The “Fantasy” EP is out now on Ed Banger Records with remixes by Arthur Baker & Jacques Renault and features the vocal stylings of Michael Jackson Ruckazoid (whose remix is also featured on the EP).   If the “Off the Wall” era Michael Jackson was your favorite MJ, then “Fantasy” is the track for you.

And see if you can spot Breakbot himself making a pervy appearance in the video for “Fantasy” (actually, you can’t miss him):
