When I think of the Mile High City I usually don’t think of a burgeoning new outlet for fresh trap music. But Basscrooks are quickly changing that with their dirty, yet melodic sound. Although they may not have won the Mad Decent remix competition for Clockwork’s “Titan,” their energetic trap re-vamp certainly caught my eye. If you happen to find yourself in Boulder this February make sure to catch their set at Dayglow with Borgore and Seven Lions!
Good morning! It’s Friday and I have personally curated (as always) this very extensive GDD™ Morning Update as a gift to you for the weekend. Today’s news includes Deadmau5’s views on Simon Cowell’s new DJ talent show, Porter Robinson’s BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix debut, Super Bowl XLVI’s music and performers, Bassnectar, and much more. Please read on after the jump, I know you’ll enjoy it.
So earlier today Part 1 of the Borgore Ruined Dubstep EP dropped. Borgore himself seemed a little taken aback on Twitter: ‘Oi I wake up one morning and find my Ep is out on a different label 3 weeks before the date it should have been out’. Standouts on the five track EP are My ‘My Favorite Tingz’, a gutwrenching retake on The Sound of Music classic, and ‘Sunsets’ a collaboration with Diplo, again heavy as sin. The EP itself seems pretty formulaic; start soft, go hard is great, but after listening to it twice, I kinda feel like I’m done with listening to it in full; but these tracks in particular are gems:
Heavy-hitting dubstep banger from the vault.
UK dubstep duo signed to Jakes’ H.E.N.C.H. label have gone and put out this huge summer jam which has been going through my head all week.
Remember that zany M.I.A. video I posted a little bit ago where a bunch of gingers get offed, well, LA’s baddest dubstep man 12th Planet has just released a brutal summer anthem for the angst ridden rebel inside of you. Coming in a just over the 3 minute mark, Mr. 12th P gets down and dirty, relying on the grimy low-end frequencies that have made us fiends for his bass. 2010 is turning into 12th Planet’s year as he can do no wrong. Stay hip to SMOG for more of his upcoming ish.
• M.I.A. – Born Free (12th Planet Remix)
• Passion Pit – Sleepyhead (Borgore Remix) <--- brostep FTW
These two tracks that I am about to bestow to you should seriously come with a disclaimer for hearing loss and/or brain damage. They are very highly intense and inundated with sounds that most people would run scared from. Well, I know there are some crazy kids out there like me that actually love this stuff, so to those who are about to enjoy these, I salute you.
This first track was given to me by our good friend Tre. It comes from the producer known as 16bit
who turns a very chilling sample into a punch-in-the-face dubstep track. Careful with this one.
This next one I stumbled on completely by accident, but I immediately fell in love with it. Borgore
is a dub and DnB producer from Tel Aviv, Israel, and he makes some serious, hardcore tunes. He’ll be touring all over the UK, Belgium, and Netherlands in the month of December so definitely check him out if you’re out that way around the holidays. Make sure you’re very
relaxed for the first 52 seconds of this song.
