Hardened by years touring the world as half of pseudo-kitsch acid-electro force Light Year, and now gone solo, Jensen Interceptor is unleashing the raw, elastic-funk techno of his dreams upon the world.
With the split of Light Year and end to the Bang Gang era, Jensen Interceptor has dug his claws deep into the skin of techno, letting us know he will still prevail. Riding on the wings of respected labels Twin Turbo and Motorik, Jensen has released his newest EP INTERCEPTION – a colossal (4) track ride through club techno and onto the deeper side of things.

Shortly after smashing our VERSUS party on Cinco De Mayo and also claiming one of the better remixes on the ZZAfrika Turbo100 release, Bang Gang’s The Finger Prince brings us his CONDUCIVE II EP. TFP takes you on a journey through the minimal and malignant levels of techno, featuring 3 new originals with remixes from Charlie May, Ark and Bowski. My personal fav on the release is ‘The Noi’, but I approve of all of them so check out the full release below and they’re giving away the Charlie May remix FREE as well!
AYE! AYE! AYYYYEEEE! This Thursday we will be celebrating cinco de mayo in the GDD fashion, bringing you yet another rockin VERSUS party at The Central in Santa Monica. This week, we have a real treat for you, as we host the Bang Gang Deejays tour with a special perfomance as their side project for Turbo Records, The Finger Prince. You should remember fawning over the Planet Turbo EP, and his remix of Boy 8-Bit’s ‘Yard Birds’… and if not, we have that for you below. On top of that, we also welcome Pasternak from Lemonade, all the way from NYC. If that doesn’t make you drop your chalupa then we’ll have you know that Danceism wild child Ben Oprstu will be laying down a set, along with Dub Frequency’s Bixel Boys and your one and only GDD groove-master A.Rod. Make sure you make it out early, because we have surprises planned for the beginning of the noche. Dirty Dancing contests? You bet. Free tequila shots? Let’s hope so. GDD stickers on your girlfriend? Count on it. ¡Vamanos!
For many Angelenos, some of our first experiences with electronic music were at gatherings like the first few HARD Festivals, Insomniac massives, and the early days of the Sahara Tent at Coachella, back around 2006, 2007, 2008 or so. These lineups were usually christened with great veteran acts such as Soulwax, 2manyDJs, Mr. Oizo, Boys Noize, Tiga, etc. We all remember the first time of hearing those dirty, wild, grinding techno grooves being pumped out over these massive soundsystems and all instantly understanding why these acts are at the top of the bill. Naturally, dance music and the festival lineups have since expanded and grown in all sorts of different directions, yet it seems that few new up and comers have been able to capture that classic analog techno sound that many of the flagbearers mentioned above have conquered. But then again, many amazing things seem to be happening down in Australia that have managed to stay off the radar…
LIGHT YEAR is a duo from Sydney made up of two 25 year olds Jordan Feller and Mikey Melas. Our friends at Guns in the Sun and Collaborative Media have brought the Aussie techno duo LIGHT YEAR over to the USA, and are debuting them to California on Saturday night at the V Lounge in Santa Monica, where they recently brought Bag Raiders last month. Light Year’s tracks “Sex Education” has been a staple in the 2manyDJs set over the past year, and their sound has been championed by the likes of Mr. Oizo, Strip Steve, and many others… including Tiga, who has been playing out their remixes on BBC Radio over the past months. Watch the AWESOME video below to see many of the top tastemakers in dance music hyping these two Aussie youngbloods.
The Light Year boys are joined on stage by the absolute legends who discovered them…..their label bosses Bang Gang Deejays, who will be dropping techno party bombs all night like they’ve been doing it for years…..because they have. If you’re not familiar with Bang Gang 12 inches…. they are the record label who discovered and developed the likes of Bag Raiders, Flight Facilities, Cassian, and (probably) birth control. Opening the night is LA’s resident legend, disco diety, and wax messiah, Dirty Dave. Last but not least, Mikey from Light Year turns 26 on Saturday night, so you definitely know it’s going to get loose at the V Lounge. Long story short, I wouldn’t miss Saturday night in Santa Monica. Scope the Facebook here, and buy the super cheap $8 party ticket here.
See you all on Saturday! Also, if you haven’t already, pick up Light Year’s promo mix that Trev posted earlier this week HERE. _______
Our good buddies Guns In The Sun have been bringing some killer up-and-coming talent out to California, and the month of May is no exception. Rolling along their showcase of the Bang Gang Crew from Australia, we are stoked to announce that Light Year will be starting their ‘USA Vacation Tour’ next Friday in Denver with our mile high homies London Dungeon, and then cruise out here the next day to start their domination of the Southwest. With 16 stops on this side of the Mississippi, you better get out your tune towel and safety helmet, because these shows are gonna get sweaty and reckless.
To get your panties in a bunch with excitement, the Light Year boys put together this promo mix to prep you for their proper USA vacation, which they claim as “a big bag of cali green and some fake titties in our faces”.
