This Saturday, we will be heading up to the bay for a special GDD™ Takeover at Harlot San Francisco! The night is set to feature a House music legend from Chicago (Cajual/Relief Records) as the SECRET guest, as well as our own BONES, aRod, Shae B, and the world debut of The Interns (myself – Tōks – & Colby J.). Additionally, we’ll be celebrating the birthdays of two of San Francisco’s best event photographers, Holy Mountain and Lance Jeffrey Skundrich, so you can expect a night of revelry with a proper vibe. If you’re looking to get down to some great music this Saturday, join us at Harlot and be a part of our family affair.
In the spirit of the season, the polar points align as AROD and BONES bring you the 3rd annual HOLIDAZE MIX. This time around we showcase tracks from the likes of Chris Malinchak, No Regular Play, Soul Clap, Hot Natured, Villa, CHVRCHES, Kidnap Kid, Route 94, Amine Edge & Dance, Jonas Rathsman, Mike Mago, and many more. The product is an hour long of soulful grooves that will warm any winter night, whether traveling to loved ones or finding your own path on the mountain slopes, let this be your compass and heartbeat to get you through safe and sound.
This Saturday, Gotta Dance Dirty returns to their old 805 stompin grounds for a good ol’ Back 2 School Takeover. Join us as we invade The Savoy in downtown Santa Barbara, teaming up with OnSlaught Productions and DNA Studios to bring you a very special b2b set from BONES & Troy Kurtz in the main room, along with UCSB alumni aRod and Burn Unit holding down the 3rd floor. Supporting the night will be SB local talent IDEX and MICO. School is back in session and what better way to kick off the start of fall then with a proper night of dancing dirty with our GDD fam. See you this weekend!
It’s that time of the year, and the magical collaboration between opposite ends of the GDD spectrum join forces once again to create a special hour of magical vibes and seasonal grooves – perfect for traveling, lounging, love-making, acting out or giving in, starting the evening or winding it down. However you spend the holiday this year, let this mix set the ambiance to your festivities. Enjoy.
GDD™ and dubFrequency are teaming up once again for an escape to the desert this Friday through Sunday in Palm Springs. With Carmaggedon looming and hours of traffic on the closed 405 freeway inevitable, it was a no-brainer to repeat the amazing getaway we had at the end of July at The Saguaro Hotel. GDD™ DJs (Bones, aRod, Shae B, and Burn Unit), No Shirt | No Shoes DJs (Tropicool, Bixel Boys, SAH, and Junkyard), and our friends Kedd Cook and White on Rice will be putting down the best grooves by the pool all weekend long.
It’s the week we celebrate our independence in America, but more importantly to you dirty dancers – its one of the biggest weeks of electronic music events. Don’t think just because you’re not going to Vegas for an overpriced pool party that you can’t have an epic weekend… this Thursday, we’re kicking things off with a summer-vibed lineup @ VERSUS with DJ sets by Steffi Graf, Bixel Boys, Junkyard, and GDD’s own sun-kissed residents aRod and Tropicool. So Los Angeles, you have plenty time left in your life to overpay for bottle service and wear collared shirts – this holiday weekend you need to keep things local and get your West Side groove on. This event will reach capacity so please RSVP and arrive early to guarantee entry!
Internet radio is tricky when it comes to mixes. Who gets paid what royalties, how much are they paid, and how do we know which songs are used in the first place? Other streaming platforms have failed to address these concerns around long-form digital content, but Thefuture.fm has a solution. They’ve created MixSCAN which does exactly what the name implies: analyzes the mix and marks each individual track. Get the world’s top DJs to curate the content, and you’ve got what could be the solution DJs have been waiting for. We’ve of course got mixes from GDD™ up as well, check out what our mixes look like on the platform, courtesy of BONES, aRod, Tropicool and Burn Unit.
After a hugely successful weekend at Snowball Music Festival, we return with 3 of the acts to bring you a slice of what you may have missed in Colorado. This thursday @ VERSUS, we welcome the Bang Gang wildchild Cassian from Australia, riding the momentum from his ‘Vamos a la Americas’ tour. Also coming in hot off Snowball Fest are the Guns In The Sun DJs and Bixel Boys, and supporting will also be GypsyDiscoCaravan and our very own aRod. Make sure you hurry up and RSVP, this is one is gonna be a hot mess of a good time.
As we are now in the eye of the holiday hurricane, the right dose of mixtape can get you through all the buzz and bustle of the crazy season. Lucky for you, our very own aRod & BONES have comprised an early present for all you faithful dirty dancers out there. Back by popular groove, this is the second installment of our collaborative project between the polar opposite ends of the Gotta Dance Dirty spectrum. *And for all you Dirty Dancers in LA, SB, and SF! Don’t miss our GDD™ HOLIDAZE TAKEOVER party @ on the top floor of Savoy in downtown Santa Barbara this Saturday!
Winter is just around the corner, and I know you dirty dancers can feel it. The best way to stay warm and keep that body movin? Why, your weekly dose of The Dirt of course. Today we bring you some of the top tunes procured by none other than aRod and BONES, a collaboration that represented the Official Pacific Festival mixtape, and then some. In this edition, we’ve decided to share with you our favorites in the Deep House category. Culminating from the origins of Garage, Soul, UK Funky, and good ol’ House, we’ve selected some of our favorites both classic and current. Enjoy these while you’re gettin’ it done, whether for serious or for play. DO WORK, AND GO DEEP.
Like many others, I’ve been obsessed with this heavenly piece of soulful deep disco/deep house for the last month. It’s made appearances on some of the season’s best mixtapes (including Goldroom & Zimmer) along with countless makeout mixtapes all over the world.
As we eagerly await the release of Jonas Rathsman’s “Tobago”, here’s an overlooked nugget of his from a few months back. This deep, 90s-tinged, house throwback is a nice lead in to “Tobago”. According to our man Leon at FRΞNCH ΞXPRΞSS, “Tobago” will be out in two weeks, which, under every circumstance, is Leon’s answer for all release dates: “TWO WEEKS”.
The Art Department Essential Mix has become the most universally revered mix of 2011 here on GDD™. We Spotified the original version of this track on The Dirt #50 and today we feature the slightly deeper Aba Therapy Version which appeared on the Essential Mix. Set the mood with this one.
This is another track in heavy rotation this month. Marcos Cabral takes the poppiness of the original out and adds a deep Balearic disco touch to this track, co-written (with vocals added) by Tesla Boy.
• Storm Queen – Look Right Through
I’m gonna book end my picks with another track featuring Damon C. Scott vocals, this time with Storm Queen, aka Morgan Geist. It’s a classic piece of deep boogie that’s an homage to house music’s Chicago & Detroit roots.
Introducing the secret crew of some well-known former stage magicians, members of Claptone came to bring magic to your DJ-bag with 4 slices of jacking house. Less than a week out and already heavily supported by the likes of Tensnake, Julio Bashmore, Jesse Rose, Claude VonStroke, Round Table Knights, and Hot Chip (just to name a few). Make ‘em Clap To This.
Our london boy T.E.E.D. takes this Ballad straight to the moon in a deep bass shuttle. You may laugh at that now but once the low end takes off you’ll be scrambling for your space helmet. Another stellar release on Crosstown Rebels.
The elusive Belgians duo take house in its earliest (Garage) form – soulful vocals, über simple piano tunes, and simply added bass. This leaves you with one of the year’s best dance tracks, and some of the most purified house out there!
Another side project of the UK jack of all trades Hervé (YL) and Trevor Loveys (LBT). This tune is the proud bastard child of UK Garage, UK Funky and 2-step in the best way a collaboration could produce, one of the many creations on Herve’s new Deep Thrills vol. 1 full length VA release.
