It’s time for the weekend – and what better way to kick it off with a special HARD edition of The Dirt, bringing you (15) tracks to pump all the way through. We welcome the HARD bossman Destructo to the selection, along with his #2, mister D BELL himself and our very own BONES. Some of these you can download (where you see the DL link given), but some you just have to listen and wait because they’re either too good to be FREE or their quite frankily not even out yet. All in all, gems abound. Dig in, my weekend warriors.
For a guy from Kentucky by way of Miami, Amtrac surely has an impeccably tight grasp on modern day dance music. Adding to his discography which already includes an album, some EPs, and about 30 remixes comes a four track EP titled The Scheme via Super Music Group. What really sticks out on this EP is Amtrac’s close attention to detail in the looping and pitch shifting of his vocals, which are very reminiscent to the legend MK‘s. If you’re going to be in Miami for WMC in March, Amtrac will be playing our party at Bardot alongside Alex Metric, Oliver, Aeroplane, UZ, and Destructo. You can pick up pre-sale tickets for that event here.
For a lesson in diversity in dance music, one should look no further than AMTRAC’s SoundCloud. AMTRAC is one of the few producers out there whose original & remix work genre-hop seamlessly and effortlessly. When listening to AMTRAC’s work, you get the feeling that he doesn’t purposefully set a course for a particular sound. There’s a sense that the end result of every track he produces is a natural progression of ideas that always seem to work well for whatever style the track ends up being.
What does Alex Metric, Aeroplane, and UZ have in common? The next OWSLA release – Ammunition Pt. 2
The London-based Alex Metric saw a massive response earlier in the year for his chord-stabbing anthem ‘Rave Weapon’, gaining widespread support and the attention of Skrillex and his collective label OWSLA. They’ve teamed up together to release the remix EP, boasting three stunning remixes from the Italo maestro Aeroplane, the mysterious UZ, and Dirtybird newcomer Mark Starr – you couldn’t ask for a better trifecta of difference.
*The EP is due out December 3rd worldwide, and also features the original mix plus (2) new originals ‘Prophecies’ and ‘Motion Study’. Check them all out below!
Ladies and gentlemen, we have a treat in store for you this week. This week’s dirt features the progressive house prodigy, Pierce Fulton and myself, Tre. Pierce has put together a list of energetic diverse bangers and I have selected some of my recent favorites in a number of genres; from IDM to dark, rolling electro. So lets get to it!
Alex Metric continues to exemplify his Midas touch this week with a stream of his latest remix for the lovely Ellie Goulding. “Anything Could Happen” is the first single from Goulding’s forthcoming album, Halcyon, and London-based Alex Metric has gone to work on the Poppy, lighthearted original in a big way — adding in a Kavinsky-esque sound fit for your Testarossa. Release date TBA for this bad boy.
The new record label project of Miike Snow’s Karlsson & Winnberg known as Robotberget just released the final track in their FREE compilation EP 1, celebrating the first 5 singles to be signed. Boasting a powerful medley of electro, techno, house and bass music, the solid roster features tracks by Carli (Savage Skulls), Style Of Eye, Alex Metric, MtheM and the awesome project Galantis (made up of Carli, Style Of Eye, and Karlsson!). The compilation marketing path released one track per week for the past 5, and we have the entire bundle for you to check out!
For the low, low price of an email address, one of the best EPs of 2012 can be all yours. You will hear these three tracks in every mixtape and every club/festival DJ set for the remainder of 2012 and every time you hear them, they will just keep getting better and better. That’s a fact, Jack.
Last month, we were lucky enough to host the groovy Italian duo, Fare Soldi, at our weekly VS. party in Santa Monica. Besides just being a pair of awesome guys, they played a fantastic set, complete with matching golden jackets shimmering on stage. This morning, I opened my inbox to find the next mixtape in their ‘I Told You I Was Frico’ series, and it’s about as golden as their outfits. The mix is filled with remixes and originals from the likes of Alex Metric, Carte Blanche, Louis La Roche, and of course Fare Soldi, and it’s really getting my day off to a great start right now. I hope it does the same for you.
