Australian natives, RÜFÜS, or RÜFÜS DU SOL (as copyright laws suggest they be known as in the U.S.), are an act to be reckoned with as they fuse an energetic live setup with intricate electronic components that radiate a universal feeling to their audience. With a sold out show their first night in LA and a second show added for a packed house at Bardot on a Monday, it’s safe to say that America is catching the drift as well. We got the chance to talk to RÜFÜS in between their crazy schedule at SXSW and got some insight into what it’s like leaving Australia, how they came to be, and what it’s like to have their debut LP signed to Columbia Records. Tha Funk Lordz were on a mission in 2013, dropping tons of new material and a Boiler Room set, preparing the masses for a funky 2014. To reiterate this point, a new single, “Come Alive,” featuring the indie dance sensation Toro Y Moi, has surfaced to forge their sound into the new year. Dave and Chaz (of Toro Y Moi) perform a good clean sexy duet and share some bars in this disco anthem as the effervescent Chromeo vibes…come alive! This new album, “White Girls,” that’s been teased with the release of the first couple singles, has a message heavily catered to those females out there grindin’ lookin’ to get on that global get down. Then again, who isn’t! Catch them touring the world this year alongside TOKiMONSTA and Oliver at any of their 22 stops with tickets going on sale this Friday. Continue Reading

As we put the cork in the sweet bottle that was 2013, dance music can toast to the New Year after having one of her finest years yet. Dance music has been stuck into the mainstream vein like never before, and the subsequent resurgence to underground sounds have been thriving across the globe. From the deserts to the beaches, festivals both new and old continue to pack sold out audiences, and there are no signs of slowing.

On behalf of the GDD™ collective, we’d like to say thanks for riding along with us. Whether you were with us from the beginning, or have only recently stumbled across our page, we’re honored to share our taste in music with you. We’ve humbly amassed a year’s worth of tunes and tallied up our favorite DJs and producers. This has certainly been the most difficult year for selections due to the awesome amount of great tunes that dropped, which is why most of the categories have expanded. It warms our hearts to see a host of our friends in the running this year, as well as all the fresh faces that broke through with massive years.

We hope that 2013 was a prosperous one for you, and we bid you all a Happy New Year.
