Hospital Records boss, High Contrast, has a knack for adding his uplifting Drum N Bass flair to songs you’d never expect. The most recent example of his aptitude shines is his forthcoming remix for popular UK trio, London Grammar, which will be released as part of the Strong EP on September 1st. High Contrast clings to London Grammar vocalist Hannah’s Florence Welch-like voice while upping the tempo and adding in soaring crescendos of percussion. If you haven’t, make sure to go back and have a listen to some of High Contrast’s older remixes like those for Adele or Calvin Harris. Nostalgiaaaa.
It’s been a journey. Since its inception in the summer of 2010, our longest lasting weekly feature, The Dirt, has brought a staggering amount of free music to the masses, and we’re proud to still be here 100 editions and 100 Dirt Babes in the books. It’s a tough feat to get these tracks together each week (probably why we have some gaps in the mix here and there, apologies), but it’s been an amazing experience sharing music with all of you, which, of course, is the main reason why we’re here.
We wanted to put together something special for the centennial episode, so 11 of our writers have included 2 songs each — one from one of the 99 past Dirts that we’ve posted and any other song that we felt was exceptional enough to make the cut of such an outstanding post. We hope you enjoy these as much as we enjoyed putting them together. Here’s to another 100. Continue Reading
When this show was first announced I couldn’t believe it. Jamie XX — the musical prodigy illustrious for his percussive talent in UK Platinum band The XX as well as his solo work remixing the likes of Gil Scott-Heron, Florence + The Machine, and Adele — is coming to Hollywood to throw down a DJ set atop the roof of The W Hotel at Drai’s. But wait, it gets better. Joining Jamie in the black Red Bull booth will be another GDD™ long-time favorite, Jacques Greene, the soulful and extremely talented producer out of Montreal. If you trust anything we’ve ever told you here on GDD™, listen to me now. Check out this show and we promise you will not regret it.

“The waves ≠ raves consists of hand-picked gems that inspire us, tickling and tempting our creative juices. Some are old, some are new, but it is what we are listening to now. They are groovey, flowing, and sun-kissed just like that perfect wave. They are uplifting and guaranteed to put a smile on your face. They sound the best with a babe in one hand, a cold brewski in the other, and the sand beneath your feet. Stay Dreamy.”

After watching a half-hour Adele Unplugged special on Palladia last week, I’ve had a rekindled love for the soulful sounds of the Tottenham-born vocalist. I highly recommend finding her Unplugged set somewhere on the interwebs if possible; her pipes may or may not have made me well up a bit. Anyway, here’s a little snackpack of remixes from her hit, Rolling In The Deep. Some are old, some are new, all are good. Enjoy.
• Adele – Rolling In The Deep (Jamie XX Remix)
• Adele – Rolling In The Deep (Villa Remix)
• Adele – Rolling In The Deep (Bedroom8 Remix Extended Version)
• Adele – Rolling In The Deep (Downtown London Remix Extended)
• Adele – Rolling In The Deep (David Berrie Remix)
Looks like Adele’s people don’t want any remixes up for download so we apologize for that. Have a search on Soundcloud or Youtube to listen to any of these great versions…
Lincoln Barrett, better known to us as High Contrast
has been tearing up dancefloors for years, actually getting signed back in 2000. Blending the lines between drum and bass with the likes of smooth vocals and groovy beats really holds true to his “High Contrast” name. And he’s damn good at it. Listen to the likes of these jams and try to tell me you’re not all HOT and BOTHERED.
beautiful lyrics over pound town beats, the best of both worlds
since we all take our weekends very seriously…
Shoutout to Rudy Tuesdaysssss
