Progressive House

It is rare that I stumble outside of my ‘disco’ realm, and even weirder when i fall into ‘progressive house’. Mainly because of the lack of creativity, the lack of funk, and serotonin builds and drops that are normally associated with the genre just seem cheesy to me. However, I met a new friend the other day who has shown me otherwise. Space Natives creatively blend a multitude of interesting sounds that culminate together like a magical puzzle creating a truly special vibe. They utilize a lot of extremely unique tones, almost experimental, yet it works. To me, they’re breathing new life into the genre, and its truly something worth appreciating.

Check out The Void, the premiere track of the galactic-ly fresh LA-based duo Space Natives. Don’t let the name fool you, this is a track bursting at the seams with reminiscent melodies, uplifting progressions and soaring retro leads that quickly combine into an all out banger. They have been nice enough to let this one go to the fans for free and it is quite the special treat. Be on the lookout for their killer live show along with an upcoming album released later this summer.

One of the UK’s best kept secrets, Eden Anderson aka Special Features, is on a path to international stardom with his trademark, melody-driven progressive house that is both emotionally moving and powerfully adrenalizing. Earlier this week, he marked his transition from a mega-remixer into a true producer’s role with his first solo original track, “Illusions,” released on the well-respected tastemaker label Big Beat Records.

We had a quick chat with the promising up and comer about the story behind “Illusions,” how he may want to be an astronaut, items on his bucket list, his future plans, and more. Check out Special Features‘ enlightening new track below and read the interview after the jump.

Our friend and fellow New York native dBerrie has been making some big moves lately with his recent spot on the massive Generation Wild tour alongside Deniz Koyu, Danny Avila and Mikael Weermets as well as with his forthcoming release “Zenith” on Flamingo Recordings, supported by the likes of David Guetta and Fedde Le Grand. So it was natural to assume that he would eventually make an appearance with a guest mix, and he definitely didn’t disappoint! Featuring hot tracks like Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike’s “Wakanda,” Zedd’s “Stache,” Sidney Samson’s “Torrent” and several of his own originals and edits, this mix is absolutely worth the listen.

A lot of the time dance music leaves itself very open to interpretation. What can be an uplifting listen for some, may be a melancholy experience for others. Even when there are lyrics to a song, they aren’t always seen in the same light by every listener. Well, young LA-native Paris Blohm very much intends for this song about an unfortunate situation to be an inspiring one. In his own words:

“My sister, Chloe Blohm, passed away in 2011. She inspired hundreds of people with her art, and her uplifting and loving personality even while facing her crippling disease, muscular distrophy. This song is dedicated to her because her ‘Presence’ is still here, pushing me and the ones who had the pleasure of knowing her. She did more than most able-bodied people ever even thought of doing. She leaves on the light, when the world goes dark. This song is a tribute to her.”

It’s a Progressive House anthem with emotion and heart, courtesy of not only the production but the vocals lent by Angel Taylor. It’s the debut single under his new moniker Paris Blohm. And it’s free.

Our SF friends known as The M Machine have always had a knack for taking Pop songs and rendering them into their own vision. From their vicious remix of Lil Jon’s “I Do” as Pance Party to this most recent remix of Bruno Mars’ “Locked Out of Heaven,” the trio find a way to maintain the catchy sensibilities of the originals while providing a dollop of their style of Dance music on top. The guys take a glitchy, DnB direction with this remix released today on Atlantic Records, and I’m into it.

Black Boots Rebels

Black Boots, the newest addition to the star-studded family that is Ultra Records, want to give you more than just great music. The duo – comprised of Mikey Francis (formerly of Afghan Raiders) and Lightknife – are here to deliver a message. They want to provide an escape, “encourage chaos, sexuality, expression, and independence.”

Self-described as having “an electronic body, but a rock ‘n’ roll soul,” their debut single Rebels In The Night falls somewhere on the musical spectrum between New Order, The Presets, and Swedish House Mafia, combining Mikey’s subdued but emotional voice with guitars and sweeping, euphoric hooks. The song is accompanied by a captivating video that will thrust you deep into the world of Black Boots. Expect plenty more from them via Ultra in 2013, and with this video currently sitting at nearly 150,000 views, I’d say their message is getting out loud and clear so far.

Have a listen to the song below, then watch the video and get purchase links after the jump.
