Round two of Science Sundays is already upon us and what better chemical to bring into the mix than the first one I put in my body this morning? Don’t get any of the wrong ideas guys… just caffeine. There are few things I delight in more (slash find absolutely necessary to have in my life every day) than a joyous cup of coffee, and that in large part is due to its caffeine content. Caffeine, for all you terminology nerds, is a xanthine alkaloid that acts as a acetylcholinesterase inhibitor. OK, so that basically means it’s a stimulant. It perks you up, helps keep you clear and focused, and if you’re anything like me after three cappuccinos, can make you jittery and energetic.
So there we have it. Below are a few songs I enjoy, ones that I find help me wake up in the morning, put my head in a nice and clear space, keep me tapping my feet in my desk chair, and ward off any yawns or feelings of exhaustion of the moment. So if you’re feeling a little groggy on Monday morning, or start slowing down at work in the afternoon, fill up your favorite mug and press play. I promise you’ll be right as rain in no time.
This week’s Dirt is a big one. Not only did we up the ante with FOURTEEN big tunes to give away (that’s two touchdowns worth of tracks); we also have a very special guest contributor from one of our favorite sites/labels. Gotta Dance Dirty is pleased to welcome Nancy Lu from Discobelle as our special guest contributor on The Dirt #86. One look at Nancy’s Twitter account and you’ll see that she’s a big favorite amongst many of our favorite bloggers and artists alike. And there is certainly a reason for her popularity…Nancy knows her stuff. When it comes to writing about electronic music, Nancy is one talented + crafty word slinger. GDD™ could not be more pleased to have her on board this week. To top things off, not only is Nancy lending her words, she’s also this week’s Dirt Babe. SCORE.
And now, The Dirt #86 brought to you by Discobelle’s Nancy Lu + aRod…
Never before has there been such a focus on ATL branded ‘trap’ music, which is great for the undisputed king of A-town Daniel Disaster (Heroes x Villians) because he’s being doing this long before it caught fire on the blogosphere. In February, he debuted his new VAVLT BOYZ project, which fuses everything from UK Funky to Gucci Mane. On the third installment of the mixtape series, VALVT resident DJ Respire takes the reigns and produces a bass heavy landscape that’s equally as lucid as it is dark.
Believe it or not, the already popular ‘Mercy‘ by Kanye West just got better. Remixed by the dark & twisted future-bass pioneers of the moment, RL Grime & Salva, this raved out Post-Apocalyptic Trap take on the single will without a doubt be a dance-floor killer this summer. Only available to stream at the moment. Enjoy!
As if the EDM acts coming out of France weren’t killing it already, another French outfit called Club Cheval (Canblaster, Myd, Sam Tiba & Panteros666) is quickly making its mark in this competitive industry as one of the most radical acts of the moment. In the midst of their upcoming EP on Bromance Records, the four-piece monster group just released an exclusive preview in mixtape form for Dazed & Confused Magazine. The tape features their very first original track. Download free!

Out today on Night Slugs, Girl Unit follows up 2010’s absolutely huge release in ‘Wut‘ with a six track EP titled ‘Club Rez‘ that you can now pick up on Beatport.
As some of you might know, Brighton-based producer Ital Tek (Alan Mayson), has been consistently evolving his sound per release — organically gaining respect over the past few years. Even though Dubstep made a huge impression on Mayson’s past music production, like many of us, he eventually got tired of the genre’s growing dullness. This adversity drove Ital Tek to once again push himself, landing on the grounds of juke & footwork.
Creating a fresh mixtape today practically hold’s its weight in gold. You don’t need to be hustling out five gigs a week. You don’t even need to put out an EP. You just need to be original, and true to who you are. Enter the VAVLT BOYZ: savages of luxury. Comprised of Atlanta’s two most provocative figures: Heroes x Villains & BLKKMORRIS, they fuse their delinquent lifestyles together into 35 minutes of futuristic gangsterism. Shoutout to Cobrathrow, Sloppy Seconds, and strippers of the A.
On the more experimental side of things, SriSri Means & FiFi Holly – aka FiFi Nasty – have created 5 new live productions – an explorative journey through disco, psychadelic, trance, lounge, breaks, industrial and glitch hop. The coolness however comes through the video capturing how each recording was made, pushing the limits of Ableton live w/ the Novation Launch Pad + APC40. Check out the visuals below, and download the tunes – perfect for groovin out on any level!
