Having come off tremendous week of music in Miami, we return to the blogosphere with a breath of fresh tunage in every shape and size. With everything showcased from across the spectrum, WMC/MMW 2012 proved to be monumental in success and in celebration. To share the experience with our readers, Bones, Toks, and Korbz have put together a special WMC 15-track compilation for the 68th edition of the Dirt. Whether you were with us in Miami or not, take home the soundtrack to our week.
The French duo BeatauCue have been turning heads since their humble formation in a college dorm room. Consistently pumping out impressive originals and remixes, the two young producers have shown no signs of slowing down. With nothing but a bright future ahead of them, it seems like BeatauCue are destined for huge things, which is why I was so excited when they agreed to a quick interview for GDD!
Ever since the first time I heard Hudson Mohawke’s Cbat in the opening scene of my all-time favorite Workaholics episode I’ve been in absolute love with the song. If someone plays it in the club I’m liable to start behaving like a grade-A wasted sorority girl. With that being said, the original is not exactly DJ friendly. Enter Toronto-based beat scientist Grandtheft. Here’s what he had to say about his take on the original:
“When I was on a Canada-wide tour with Keys N Krates last month, I had a lot of long drives to work on tunes. Here’s a Moombahton edit of one of my favorite jams of 2011… I did more than just speed it up though – I chopped it, fr33ked it and redid drums etc – so I guess it’s more of a bootleg remix. Response has been amazing in the club!”

A consummate gentleman and production wonderchild alike, Dillon has taken the raw concepts of moombahton and luvstep in the last year and distilled them down into the perfectly polished little gems we know and love today. His latest EP on Skrillex’s label OWSLA is no exception, and we’ve got a first listen of it, with an exclusive download of his new I.D.G.A.F.O.S. 2.0.
It’s fitting that one of the first big moombaton releases of 2012 should sum up the scene’s all-inclusive outlook. A-Mac, one of the key producers in the sound’s development, has teamed up with Paul David, one of the finest new talents to emerge on the scene, to drop the Horizon EP, released Feb 9th on DJ Barletta & Paul David’s Burner Records. Building a sophisticated bridge between deep house and the original Dutch house roots, ‘Horizon’ finds the pair unveiling one of the warmer, more exciting and fresh take on moombahton. To hold you over til the EP drops this Thursday, here is the giveaway Etc! Etc! remix of Horizon – a solid bit of peak-hour, breakbeat-laden machine gun funk.
Wick-it The Instigator brings his Southern thunder from Nashville to the West coast with this awesome moombahton remix of Dr. Dre. The hard hitting kicks, tasteful samples, and groovin’ vibe will get you boogie-ing into the weekend. Check out more of Wick-it’s eclectic catalog on his SoundCloud.
With all the great music being released for free today, I wanted to showcase a few giveaway remixes by friends of ours because this is what GDD was built on. Free music for the promotion of artists and their sound… and who doesn’t like a free 320? Support our homiez.
This Thursday we are opening our doors at The Central in Santa Monica to fellow Los Angeles crew and rising record label, Mad Decent, for a full-on takeover at VS. Headlining the night will be the man from Trinidad and Diplo‘s right hand man, Jillionaire, along with supporting sets from Mad Decent homies Benzona and The KiD and an opening set from Beateaz. 2012 has been a great year for VS so far, so come on out and enjoy a Thursday with us. You never know who will show up…
