Robin Thicke would have been better off had Forever Kid just produced “Give It 2 U” in the first place. Luckily, it looks like the duo were looking for just the project to keep them busy in the midst of a brutal Swedish winter. Let’s be real– the original ”Give It 2 U” missed the mark. Even the anticipated verse by my own personal Lord and savior, Kendrick Lamar, landed flat on top of the original mix’s tired, pre-blog-house-electro-sounding beat. This remix is much more fun, and Kendrick’s verse is highlighted much better as well. High kicks. Dream come true. #RefuseToGrowUp
Our friend, Christian Karlsson of Miike Snow, and more importantly Galantis, just dropped off the brand new official video for the smashing single, ‘Smile’ produced by himself & Linus Eklow AKA Style of Eye. The video is clean in simplicity, yet suggestive, and builds in tension, matching the energy of the tune perfectly. We can’t wait to see where this project heads next, but we know it will be out of this world.
Forever Kid are back at it again, and with each release they step it up a notch and continue to hit the mark. Every new remix is a fresh blast of cold air to the face, boldly doing whatever they want to classics that most up and comers wouldn’t dare touch, and that’s really the idea here. This remix is no exception, an artful splash of their tuned up aesthetic perfectly courting the familiar sonic stage; here’s its their signature “dream come true” overflow of retro snyths on top of Ce Ce’s powerhouse pipes. Always over the top in just the right dose, I find myself hitting the loop for a listen or ten on whatever I find in my inbox from them.
Also, got more info this week on the creation of the Forever Kid helmet and their ongoing collaboration with street legend Annie Preece on the design, to finally be built by the mau5head-maker himself.
Forever Kid are making moves. Tapped for an official remix of Capital Cities’ Kangaroo Court, these wild dudes waste no time throwing the infectious electro-pop original into high gear. As with the rest of their music, I find this tune to be addictive and endlessly re-listenable. The solos and the signature synth leads that Forever Kid are carving out make this remix a marked improvement upon the original. Kind of makes me want to kick down the door of a club and break into a synchronized dance with everyone on the dance floor in full animal costume. brb.
Forever Kid Fridays comes a day early today, and they’re after my own heart. In the years since the King of Pop has passed, we’ve seen plenty of hasty remixes leech their way up the blogs every August 29, his birthday. Today we have something different and special, a tasteful ode to the man and legend that was, and always will be. Forever Kid‘s signature dream-come-true styled synths reimagine these iconic riffs, bust their way through with flying kicks, and send us head first into the end, for that face-melting Van Halen solo we all know so well.
