Drum and Bass

Today we have an exclusive premiere straight from the UK Underground! Out on September 23rd on the famed MTA Records is the newest EP from British duo Torqux ”So Divine” with vocals by Tiffani Juno. Joining the package is this rad remix by Jus Now, another duo who bring the flavors of both Trinidad AND Bristol to produce this fun, caribbean riddim inspired Drum’n'Bass. Check out both the remix and original below and make sure to pick them up officially on September 23rd!

Hospital Records boss, High Contrast, has a knack for adding his uplifting Drum N Bass flair to songs you’d never expect. The most recent example of his aptitude shines is his forthcoming remix for popular UK trio, London Grammar, which will be released as part of the Strong EP on September 1st. High Contrast clings to London Grammar vocalist Hannah’s Florence Welch-like voice while upping the tempo and adding in soaring crescendos of percussion. If you haven’t, make sure to go back and have a listen to some of High Contrast’s older remixes like those for Adele or Calvin Harris. Nostalgiaaaa.

Out last month on Noisia‘s Division Recordings, the debut album from Neosignal is a force of nature. An interesting mix of glitch-hop, dubstep, techno and DnB, the 15 track LP is diverse yet tied together by the duo’s hardcore German aesthetic that is unequalled is sound or style. “Raum und Zeit,” which is german for ‘time and space’, already has support from the likes of Amon Tobin, Skrillex and Noisia and with no signs of slowing down it will be interesting to see what these guys come out with next. One thing is certain though, their live show is gonna be dope and I can’t wait to see them stateside!

Out on March 31st wth this newest ‘My Style” compilation on Dub Police, Subscape is proving that Dubstep is definitely not dead with his prime picks of the 35 freshest tunes. Redefining the genre and introducing listeners to several new rage worthy tracks, I highly recommend you give this a listen to get you ready for any and all plans you set up for your Friday night. Check our thoughts on the comp. below and let us know which tracks you liked best! Continue Reading

Our SF friends known as The M Machine have always had a knack for taking Pop songs and rendering them into their own vision. From their vicious remix of Lil Jon’s “I Do” as Pance Party to this most recent remix of Bruno Mars’ “Locked Out of Heaven,” the trio find a way to maintain the catchy sensibilities of the originals while providing a dollop of their style of Dance music on top. The guys take a glitchy, DnB direction with this remix released today on Atlantic Records, and I’m into it.

“The last time I recorded a drum & bass set it was on a cassette tape over 10 years ago. In 2012 i was finally able to return to my original love, dive into my old vinyl, and play some jungle: b2b with Eats Everything at Bestival, b2b with Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs at Secret Garden Party, and as a guest of Bachelors of Science at their monthly at Monarch in SF. For those of you who were not able to catch one of these rare pilgrimages back to my roots, I have recorded a special set just for you featuring a handful of my all time favorite records. Happy new year and I hope you enjoy!”      - justin martin

YES. It’s here. The first volume of remixes for Justin Martin‘s unbelievable debut album, Ghettos & Gardens, has arrived. 6 tracks make up this first installment, with dirtybird family members Ardalan, French Fries, and Catz N Dogz trying their hand at 3 singles while Danny Daze, Dusky, and Bachelors of Science take the reins for another 3. With only 2+ months left in 2012, I can still safely say that Ghettos & Gardens is my pick for album of the year, and a whole new batch of remixes from this caliber of talent makes me so damned delighted. Pick up Volume 1 on Beatport October 3rd. √+

Stanley Stevenson Byrne, aka Stan SB, is a teenage UK bassman that I hadn’t heard of until this morning when I stumbled upon this track, “Hunger.” In the track he keeps a balance of slow, emotive strings and swift, detailed drums reminiscent of Aphex Twin‘s “Flim.” Whether you’re just waking up or going to sleep, this tune should fit into a playlist for any time of day. Have a listen after the jump.

I realized it had been a while since I went on a hunt for some new liquid drum and bass, so I decided to do some digging and this is what I came up with. The UK native, Feint, produces awesome tracks that are fit for those who are keen on melodies, and this tune, “Laurence,” is a great example of that. He uses strings, piano, and more to keep things emotional and uplifting. Go on after the jump to hear what it’s all about.
