Drum and Bass

Our SF friends known as The M Machine have always had a knack for taking Pop songs and rendering them into their own vision. From their vicious remix of Lil Jon’s “I Do” as Pance Party to this most recent remix of Bruno Mars’ “Locked Out of Heaven,” the trio find a way to maintain the catchy sensibilities of the originals while providing a dollop of their style of Dance music on top. The guys take a glitchy, DnB direction with this remix released today on Atlantic Records, and I’m into it.

“The last time I recorded a drum & bass set it was on a cassette tape over 10 years ago. In 2012 i was finally able to return to my original love, dive into my old vinyl, and play some jungle: b2b with Eats Everything at Bestival, b2b with Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs at Secret Garden Party, and as a guest of Bachelors of Science at their monthly at Monarch in SF. For those of you who were not able to catch one of these rare pilgrimages back to my roots, I have recorded a special set just for you featuring a handful of my all time favorite records. Happy new year and I hope you enjoy!” - justin martin

YES. It’s here. The first volume of remixes for Justin Martin‘s unbelievable debut album, Ghettos & Gardens, has arrived. 6 tracks make up this first installment, with dirtybird family members Ardalan, French Fries, and Catz N Dogz trying their hand at 3 singles while Danny Daze, Dusky, and Bachelors of Science take the reins for another 3. With only 2+ months left in 2012, I can still safely say that Ghettos & Gardens is my pick for album of the year, and a whole new batch of remixes from this caliber of talent makes me so damned delighted. Pick up Volume 1 on Beatport October 3rd. √+

Stanley Stevenson Byrne, aka Stan SB, is a teenage UK bassman that I hadn’t heard of until this morning when I stumbled upon this track, “Hunger.” In the track he keeps a balance of slow, emotive strings and swift, detailed drums reminiscent of Aphex Twin‘s “Flim.” Whether you’re just waking up or going to sleep, this tune should fit into a playlist for any time of day. Have a listen after the jump.

I realized it had been a while since I went on a hunt for some new liquid drum and bass, so I decided to do some digging and this is what I came up with. The UK native, Feint, produces awesome tracks that are fit for those who are keen on melodies, and this tune, “Laurence,” is a great example of that. He uses strings, piano, and more to keep things emotional and uplifting. Go on after the jump to hear what it’s all about.
There’s nothing quite like some beautiful liquid drum and bass to put your soul at ease. Hybrid Minds have produced a great, thought-provoking tune that is perfect for this day of rest. What makes it even better is that they are providing us with it for free on their Facebook. Prepare for a few minutes of bliss and listen to the tune after the jump.

This week @ CONTROL features a serious medley of BASS. All the way from Brazil – the massive DirtyLoud will be gracing the decks, along with the chi-town heavy-hitter Lucky Date and only the second ever shot by the mysterious WHIIITE. Supporting sets will be provided by Sam Hiller and DigitaLife. If your down for the big noise, this is in the must attend category. This event will reach capacity, so make sure to RSVP and arrive before 1030pm!
Please email names to RSVP@gottadancedirty.com to be on our discount guestlist for the night. All names must be submitted by 5:30PM on Friday.

AKS (Addicted Kru Sound) is a six headed live dubstep/drum & bass band hailing from Belgium. My first exposure to AKS came nearly two years ago, when Laidback Luke seemingly rewired the collective brain of Los Angeles by dropping their Steed Lord remix on the typically Progressive House leaning Main Stage inside the Coliseum at Electric Daisy Carnival 2010.
Keep an eye out for AKS and their special take on bass music and unique live show as they continue to move forward! Read on after the jump to find out more about the group and their upcoming EP, out May 21st.
