Julia Kwamya, aka GERMANS, is a well traveled artist living in Brooklyn, whose moody brand of Disco pairs perfectly with the style & sound of New York in the Fall. It’s a sound that is nostalgic but forward thinking. To help capture this sound on the GERMANS‘ 2013 tracks “Cruel” & “Wonderhow“, former Pains of Being Pure at Heart band member Kurt Feldman was enlisted to produce. The results were heavenly, the melodies were out of this world and admiration had begun to soar. This admiration included Dutch disco producer Auxiliary tha Masterfader (no stranger to us here at GDD). Back in 2013, he linked up with Julia via SoundCloud & asked her if he could remix “Cruel”. She said yes. He remixed the song. And the sounds of Brooklyn & Amsterdam collided. Fast forward to present day and the two are back at it again. With the signature warm synthesizer sound of Auxiliary tha Masterfader coupled with the other-worldly, moody melodies of GERMANS, this remix of “Wonderhow” will no doubt get some major feels going. The sound of Fall is here and it’s FREE to download.
Catch GERMANS live alongside French Horn Rebellion & AYER on October 17th at Glasslands Gallery. BUY TICKETS
Fresh off its premiere on The Magician’s Magic Tape mix series, Belgian duo Arches has released their new single “Want You” for FREE download!
Following the single “There’s A Place” and their recent remix for Kiesza’s “Giant In My Heart”, the boys wanted to give back to their fans a club tool inspired by their first set of shows across Europe. The Magician debuted “Want You” in his latest Magic Tape and again on his guest mix for BBC Radio 1 this past weekend.
It’s bass-laden piano driven melodies provide the perfect bed for the plaintive vocal. The breakdown brings a truly epic moment, bringing together darker synths and bass notes before the percussion welcomes back the compulsive groove.
As we’re inching closer to the business end of 2014, there’s a new label bubbling up out of Australia named October Records. The most recent release comes from label affiliate Frames who pairs up with Elizabeth Rose to provide a two-sided ‘Intentions/Anywhere‘ EP that shares a nice space somewhere between disco and house. Frames dims the lights on his ‘Late Night Dub’ of Intentions, which is a slow burner that morphs into a groovy acid number that’ll have bodies moving till last call. Check the track below and make sure you keep an eye out for these Australian kids as they’re gearing up for a spicy Summer.
Figgy eases us back into the Fall season with “You Were Mine”, the first track off of his new EP “Missing You”. ”You Were Mine” has that special kind of mysterious energy that somehow manages to keep you moving while still making you feel completely laid back. This slow burner House/soulful Disco tune is sure to ignite your spark…it’s the perfect lead track to get your fire going for Figgy’s new EP.
The “Missing You” EP will be out later this Fall on Cut And Dry.
As a thank you to his Australian fans, and Triple J for the world’s first play of his smash, “Faded,” the burgeoning future star, ZHU, delivers a stand out rendition of CHVRCHES “Gun,” just ahead of his first appearances down under. This mystery producer has molded his pop-centric deep house sound into this dreamy cover featuring his airy vocal work crafted around guitar, synth keys, and a smooth groove. Take a moment and sink into ZHU‘s latest jam to keep the weekend feeling going strong.
The duke of Denver option4 is a hit machine. He just dropped infinite vibes on his remix for Panama Wedding’s ‘All Of The People” and it has enough low end to move YOUR low end until you can’t no more. Summer hits the deep end in this new swinger, and its been the only salvation for our case of the Mondays. Listen and grab it below for FREE!
Bondax and Darius come together on the latter’s remix of the former’s track “All I See” and the result is a mid-Summer masterpiece. Every track released between June and August claims to be a Summer classic. But few can truly back up that claim. Bondax have a proven track record when it comes to Summertime vibes. And Darius has proven to be a mood setter for all seasons (his “Romance” EP is [hot] hands down one of 2014′s finest). So naturally this artistic combination is a can’t miss for a proper Summer nights jam. Darius eases back on the tropical booty wave of the original to give “All I See” a more smoothed out, balanced sound. Darius softens the bursting vocals of the original, creating a more seductive feel to set the mood just right. If you like to keep things close on the dance floor, then this is the song for you.
Los Angeles producer (and GDD homeboy) Falcon Punch has teamed up with New York mystery producers PIXELATED on the brand new track “Flying High”. Here’s what Avery Henderson, aka Falcon Punch, had to say about the song:
“This song has been in the works for a long time and finally came together when I teamed up with NYC based producers PIXELATED to finish it up adding guitar, bass and several other elements to tie it all together.”
And how beautifully it all does tie together. The combination of soothing Baelerica & mesmerizing Nina Simone sampled vocals are sure to keep you in a trance for whatever journey you may be on. Whether it’s a top down, cross-country drive, a sail across the sea or a plane ride above the clouds, this song will most certainly keep you “Flying High”.
Like his fellow countryman Pat Lok or like English producer Clancy, Cyclist is an artist who is both well respected by his peers along with most popular dance music blogs. Like the aforementioned gentlemen, Cyclist’s production work is always of the highest quality. On his latest track, “Sunrise”, he teams up with Canadian chanteuse Maiko, their second collaboration (“Shine” was the first back in 2013). While certain dance fads may come and go, Cyclist defies labels & produces the type of music that will most certainly stand the test of time. And “Sunrise” is no exception. With its classic Disco Soul vocals & Deep Disco/Jazz fusion groove, “Sunrise” is the type of track that you never tire of. ”Sunrise” should keep its place amongst your music collection for many Summers to come.
“Sunrise” is out NOW via Toolroom Records.
Our bud, Yuksek, just dropped off an amazing compilation album off of his label Partyfine. We knew it was going to be good, but this is beyond excellent. The parisians are making quite amazing tunes right now, and the summertime is when they shine. The album feels great all the way through, housing a great collection of tunes, showcasing what makes this label truly special. Spot on!
