Dancehall

An honor bestowed upon the hottest records at the moment has recently been awarded to Copenhagen’s crowning pop sensation, . Known for her powerful vocals and infectious dance records, she’s worked with the likes of Diplo, and made waves of her own with her last EP, “Bikini Daze.” This time around a freshmen LP is in the works, and it’s first single, “Don’t Wanna Dance,” is being heard around the world after BBC Radio 1 has given it the go ahead to rinse out to the world. It’s dance hall sound unites a room as atmospheric vocal breakdowns leave you in a dreamlike state. Look for her debut album on March 10th and be sure to pre-order if you’re really bout it bout it!

Yolanda Be Cool‘s massive rebranding effort from their 2010 hit single, “We No Speak Americano,” has proved to be very fruitful. Signing to Dim Mak Records for the U.S. release of their new album turned a lot of heads, and their mix for the label’s pool party in Miami stirred up a lot of passion. With many ID’s on their way according to some facebook activity, a new song and video titled, “A Baru In New York,” has come into being.

As the dance music scene gains more and more popularity it seems like the talent continues to get better at a younger age. The 17 year old Caveat is the newest name on the scene with his remix of “Make It Bun Dem” by Skrillex and Damian Marley.

Turning this Dancehall, reggae infused track into a top Electro banger, Caveat has continued his streak of top notch remixes. Don’t believe me, check out his remix of Dada Life – Happy Violence and Feed Me – Strange Behavior (bonus free download on his Soundcloud). With support already coming from the likes of Tiesto this young producer is definitely one to watch.

Tomorrow, May 8th, will see the the latest release on Tittsworth and DJ Ayres‘ T&A Records, based out of the increasingly bassy city of Brooklyn, NY. The Loving The Vibe EP features a new single from Calgary’s Smalltown DJs, who bring an obvious UK Garage influence overseas to collide majestically with inspirations from Dancehall and Caribbean beats. Equipped with 4 remixes from Deekline, DJ Theory, Lars Moston, and 5kinAndBone5, ‘Loving The Vibe’ is taken on multiple journeys from thumping Balitmore 808s from Deekline to the Housey take from Lars Moston to the stripped-down, Garage-or-die version from 5kinAndBone5. But today, we’re fortunate to post a VIP mix from DJ Theory that won’t be on the release tomorrow AKA just for you awesome readers of GDD™. Download it after the jump and make sure to pick up the EP tomorrow on Beatport. √+ Continue Reading

This past Friday we had the whole Trouble & Bass crew take over CONTROL @ The Avalon, led by head honcho Luca Venezia aka Drop The Lime. If you missed this earlier this week like I did, Luca released a Winter Afterhours mix thats simply the cat’s meow. Packed with vintage styles of rock, electronic, blues, and reggae blended to create “house for the drive home.” Great for background music (when you wanna leave something on in your room, ya know) and definitely a cool change of pace for the Brooklyn badman.

We were lucky enough to get back to our roots with Brooklyn-based producer Codes. Cody Murray, aka Codes, is ” reaching back to those golden days of hip-hop and house music. The days where you might sit in a record shop for hours searching for that diamond in the rough. Codes sound is a little disco, a little house, a helping of bass and a lot of love.” Recently signed to dance music heavy weights Craze and Kill the Noise’s Slow Roast label, Codes released his EP Codes House which became an instant hit with track after track finding its way into every dj’s set list. We were able to procure an exclusive interview with the man himself (via GDD street team member Britney Haberl), and also present a GDD premiere remix for Jay-Z & Kanye West’s “Ni**as In Paris” – which was recently featured on Craze’s U-Stream a week ago.
