Most Los Angelians know Mike Brillstein as a legend. Whether consciously or not, anyone who’s ever been to a club where any good music was played has likely, nay definitely vibed out to one of Mike’s sets. With fine taste and a penchant for house music, he’s finally made a serious foray into the production world with his new alter ego “Brillstein“. After his two collaborations with Jesse Rose last year, he’s venturing off on his own with a six-track mini EP, Back To Bed, which sees its initial release on Play It Down next week.

We saw Summer poking it’s head out and invited it to stay. That means tasty festivals, sun-kissed bike rides along the beach, longer days, better lays, and even, a smashing new fixtape to usher it all in. Strait out of Belgium and just touching down on our Southern california turf, Aeroplane has landed and is here to destroy Coachella in all of its cosmic glory. He says this tape is like a bike ride in space, and we must oblige. After all, thats actually a pretty amazing description of Coachella after all.

It takes a babe to blog us into festival season, sometimes.  Actress, model and music video muse, Victoria Geil, has this weekend covered for ya.  The anxious excitement of the drive out to this magical world on the barren edge of nothingness… the total and unapologetic poolside maxing as the sunshine and liquors flow… the punctuated moments of elation… the epic naps that tie it all together.

It’s all here, ladies and gentlemen: this is Coachella, as told by a babe.  If you’re a babe, you’ll love this.  If you love babes, you’ll need this.

This three mixtape series is conveniently tailored for use from the moment you begin your pilgrimage to the desert, to the moment you return to your respective basecamps upon the fateful completion of that final Sunday set.  Get it into you.

Then follow me for more, as we explore BABECHELLA 2: Party Vibes and BABECHELLA 3: Chill Vibes in playlists and commentary.

Italy’s DJ/production duo, NiCe7, has built a strong reputation for their groove-driven brand of techy, dark, and deep house music. After releasing their outstanding single, “Bassline Soldiers,” on Noir Music and its subsequent remixes on DFTD, they will be repeating the success by rereleasing their hit, “Time To Get Physical,” along with remixes by Sonny Fodera, Argy and Bontan, on March 31st. As we wait for this next release, NiCe7 has given us a proper guest mix to enjoy in the meantime. With tracks from the likes of Subb-an, Phil Weeks, HNNY, and more, the mix is a perfect send off into the weekend as it keeps an addictive underground vibe throughout its 1-hour duration.

We love it when our pals team up and create something awesome. Solé Bicycles collaborated with Snowball, as they gear up for their unique & massive festival in Denver, to bring you a special fixtape from one of our favorite acts performing this year; Chrome Sparks. The music that Chrome Sparks has been putting out is nothing short of spectacular, layered with several mood-laced elements that have always picked us up, or better yet, put us down when we needed to chill. This tape in particular is very reminiscent of a journey through time, starting out very slow and ambient, finally stretching into a warmer flow where we can really let the music embody our soul and power our actions around mid-day. Let this tape guide you, excited to see where it takes us on our journey.

Foreverland Live Set by Foreverkidmusic on Mixcloud

This one’s been a long time coming.  My bud Joakim, 1/2 of Forever Kid, unveiled the location of an event known simply as Foreverland one fateful Saturday a few weeks ago, and a few hours later a cool 650 people and a veritable militia of street artists, sculptors, and painters had swarmed the spot ready for some strange.  What followed was a righteously sweaty couple hours of edits, remixes, and live, sample-triggering fingerwork storming through the ranks of disco, pop, funk, blog house, Super Mario, and beyond, from years past all the way up to today.

The idea of Spring is observed around here as less of a season, and more of a feeling… it’s sunny and perfect year-round, from Santa Barbara all the way down to the border.  A California-tongue-in-cheek way of saying, “Let’s wear less clothing than we do in the previous very slightly chillier months, and do you want to go ride bikes?”  I believe that is exactly what my main man aRod beckons you to do with this latest installment in his now iconic SpringGlo mix series.

Five years of SpringGlo in the making, this signature of an effortlessly listenable mix features a selection of the usual choice sizzlers, as well the first Twelves remix in a bit, and a pretty righteous Todd Terje/Bryan Ferry track at the end.

If you would so kindly take up headphones and join us in chasing the sunset with a cocktail into the weekend, then yes, we would like to go ride bikes.
