Couldn’t be more pleased to be teaming up with Phonat today to bring you The Dirt #116. We’ve got 11 tracks selected by us for you spanning from some absolutely prime funky chops selected in true Phonat style, to the strangest subversions of trap and some sick black acid bootlegs from me. That, his thoughts on the tracks, and a handy little zip, coming at you! Continue Reading
In anticipation of Edit Murphy‘s upcoming performance on the WIDE AWAKE Art Car at EDC Chicago on May 26th, we sat down with the Smoke N’ Mirrors rep for a chat about his new Metro EP, Deep Disco, and his thoughts about the first Electric Daisy Carnival in his hometown of Chicago. Additionally, we have a free download of his single, “Keni,” to hand over to you today. It’s a melodic tune brimming with ol’ fashioned feelgoodery, and now it’s yours for free. Read the interview below and make sure to catch Edit Murphy on the GDD™-hosted WIDE AWAKE Art Car in Chicago next Sunday, May 26th.
Zone Music is a haven for modern Techno. The imprint’s founders, Gesaffelstein & The Hacker, have carved somewhat of a niche alongside their fellow Frenchmen over at Bromance Records, pushing for the cutting edge, bouncy, bassy Techno that we’ve all learned to love. Forthcoming on Zone is a 3-track EP from Maelstrom — a promising young producer from the West coast of France with previous releases on Sound Pellegrino, dirtybird, and BNR Trax. The title track of the Resistance EP that we’re premiering today fuses a love of Detroit Techno fundamentals with a new age French twist, providing for a uniquely indefatigable production. Preview “Resistance” below and pick up the release on May 29th. √+

Second off we have this fantastic two-track EP forthcoming on Toolroom Records, set to be released next week on May 15th. Excellent laid back house vibes, perfect for the impending pool season (sorry Southern Hemisphere).
Also, this remix of the all-time Chicago house classic Jack Your Body by Steve ‘Silk’ Hurley, forthcoming on S&S Records. This one has recently been supported by dirtybird bigwigs Claude VonStroke and Justin Martin.
If all that isn’t enough or you just want to experience one of my all-time personal favorite DJs in person and you’re in LA, this Friday at the Avalon Hollywood will be Doorly‘s last US gig before he moves back to Ibiza (Ibitha) for his annual summer residencies at We Love Sundays at the infamous Space as well as Ibiza Rocks.
The Knocks straight outta Brooklyn keep delivering the heat. Their previous single ‘Modern Hearts’ off their upcoming album topped the hypeM charts only to be followed up with a remix by none other than Los Angeles’ golden child, Goldroom. Josh adds some amazing euphoric chords under the silky smooth vocals of St. Lucia. This one will be on repeat for pool parties everywhere. Be on the lookout for tons of new Knocks material to be announced soon!
Kitsuné‘s friendly French duo, BeatauCue, have just released their most recent EP titled Lyrel this Monday, featuring three new originals that incorporate complex sounds while keeping a consistent, light-hearted danceability. Of the three new ones, I’d have to say that ‘Kickin Back’ is my personal favorite with it’s dirtybird-esque percussion, pitched-down vocal sample, and ongoing stabs, but you can decide for yourself as the guys have put together an excellent mix with all three tracks from the Lyrel EP as well as some goodies from Blawan, Yelle, Jim-E Stack, and more. EP is available on Kitsuné now and mix and tracklist are ready for download below.
Don’t frown on it being a monday, we have a huge treat for you. The SF native JAYKO has chosen GDD to be the exclusive outlet for his new EP “Deep In The Jungle.” Driven by the San Francisco bassline spirit, this 4-track release features bouncey, deep driven chords and funky melodies that encompass all things deep house and booty-tech to the bone. Grab the full EP below for FREE, and keep your eye on JAYKO!
Last night, dance music royalty, Fatboy Slim, played probably his most unique gig of his career — a music charity benefit inside the walls of the House of Commons in London adjacent to the river Thames. While the attendees of the event were far away from Fatboy Slim’s usual neon-clad clubbers (Fatboy Slim admits that he expected to see some “bad Dad dancing from the MPs”), the fact that this event actually happened is a milestone in dance music history, as nearly 2 decades ago a law was passed inside the same building that outlawed some forms of dance music events and put a serious damper on underground clubbing in the British capital. With this successful charity event under its belt, who knows what kind of shenanigans might happen in the historic building in years ahead.
In celebration of the event as well as the release of his new documentary on his massive Big Beach Bootique 5 event, Mr. Cook has given us a fun new bootleg to get everyone ready for his upcoming performances at BOTH weekends of Ultra Music Festival in Miami this month. Check it below.
This Thursday (2/28) marks the start of our new GDD monthly happening in San Francisco called Barbary Coast. After a succesfully preview party last fall, we kick into 2013 with UK house mogul Jesse Rose, bringing his internationally seasoned craft of club music to the intimate space of Harlot nightclub.
