Festivals

HARD Summer at the LA State Historic Park in Downtown Los Angeles is right around the corner, and with 2 days, 4 stages and one of the biggest, most diverse lineups HARD has ever put together, it’s safe to say that this year’s festival may be the best HARD production (on land) to date.

Set times have just been released this morning via the HARD Summer Website, so make sure to head over there to get your nights scheduled. Some tough acts are going head to head, but with the landscape of the festival grounds providing for easier movement about the festival, I think we’ll all be able to catch a bit of everything we need to.

As with many profound experiences, words cannot express the thoughts, feelings, and emotions that culminated from the 3-day fantasy land, Lightning in a Bottle. After attending, I realized what it was that motivates a company to be committed to “the highest levels of art, production, and aesthetic to always challenge people’s preconceived notions of reality and what is possible.” (website) There are countless festivals and music events in the world, but it is clear that Lightning in a Bottle is in a class of it’s own because of The Do LaB‘s determination to create an event that encompasses music, art, spirituality, and culture.

It was fleeting like a hot hand at the blackjack table, and just like that we were back home in Los Angeles wondering how a hectic weekend in the desert went by so fast. It was Thursday, and I had the grandiose idea of starting the weekend off by catching Richie Hawtin at Drai’s, a dark club in the underbelly of the Las Vegas Strip that played host to some of the biggest names in Techno over the weekend. Word was he wasn’t starting until 4AM, so that left some time for a quick pitstop at Benny Benassi at the Cosmopolitan Hotel’s Marquee Nightclub. Marquee is what Vegas is all about. Scantily glad girls and even more scantily clad employees, and enough energy in the air to get everyone through till morning even without however many Redbull vodkas they may have in their system. I wish so badly that I could hop on a plane across the Atlantic for this massive event in Brighton in 2 weeks. Fatboy Slim has curated yet another Big Beach Bootique featuring some of the world’s best talent including Carl Cox, Luciano, Nero, Maya Jane Coles, The 2 Bears, and many more. Tens of thousands are expected to come from all over the world to this monumental two-day event featuring 600 square meters of LED video screens and 385,000 Watts of sound, and we have a pair of tickets to give away to one of you kind folks. In just nine days from now, thousands will embark on a journey to a place unlike any other, The Do LaB‘s Lightning in a Bottle. The excellent music, beautiful art, spiritually cleansing yoga, and educational speakers are all to be enjoyed to the fullest at one of my favorite festivals that takes place at the beautiful Oak Canyon Ranch. After attending last year’s LIB, it’s difficult to put to words what my incredible experience was like, but I can assure you that you will be more than happy to have been a part of something much different than your typical music festival. With a well-rounded, eclectic lineup including the legendary Bassnectar, and dozens of other big names/underground acts, I can already tell it’s going to be too much fun going from set to set. Grab your tickets with the link below, check out a video/pictures from last year, and the LIB 2012 mixtape contest winner after the jump!

The lineup and tour dates for the second year of the touring Identity Festival have been officially announced this morning, and we’re excited about the headliners this year. It seems as if Eric Prydz has overcome his fear of flying and will be making his first return to the United States since 2010 to headline this year’s festival. Some other notable acts on the bill this year are young guns Madeon and Porter Robinson, Dubstep dons Excision and Nero, and of course, Wolfgang Gartner. Tickets have gone on sale today for the low price of $25. Get ‘em before they’re gone!

In praise of the madness about to ensue in the desert for the next 2 weekends, I have created a celebration to the structure that will serve as a haven to much of the music that has built GDD™ to what it is today. I present to you the BONES SAHARA 2012 MIX, built on some of the biggest tracks in dance music as of current, along with a few surprises from the future.
