If you’re at all aware of the Dirtybird crew (you should be), you’re more than likely aware of the various Dirtybird BBQ events they have been throwing over the past months. These shows have done wonders in combining the friendly atmosphere and bouncing bass the label has become so known for. Brooklyn, Detroit, Toronto, San Francisco, and now Los Angeles for HARD Day Of The Dead where they will be taking over an entire stage. Full preview after the jump!

Sultan of Summer. Dance Music’s Jimmy Buffett. Mayor of Vibestown. Whatever you wanna call Viceroy, it’s clear that he has home field advantage at any summertime pool party, and Splash House in Palm Springs is the homecoming game. Round 2 of this summer’s poolside soiree is coming up quick (August 8th-10th), so we wanted to check in with our pal Viceroy in a little different way — with the Hawaiian shirt honcho responding to our inquiries only in the form of GIFs.
Get some laughs below and pick up your tickets to Splash House here!
Bonus Round: cultivate the finest #Splashvibes with our recommended playlist for the weekend here.
Last weekend, the GDD™ crew took off to Palm Springs for the 2nd annual poolside festival, Splash House, where the grooviest of DJs converged for a weekend of sun-soaked tunes spanning across three venues — The Saguaro (where we spent most of our time), Hacienda, and the Hard Rock Hotel. With hundreds of Angelenos making the short drive on the 10E, Splash House proved that a summertime pool festival is not just a good idea, it’s a GREAT one. Big ups to LED and Goldenvoice for putting on a successful weekender. There’s no doubt that GDD will be back for every Splash House in the future.

It’s going to be a long HARD Summer this year if Gary Richards and Co.’s new lineup trailer is any indication of the debauchery that will ensue come August 2 & 3. With Jack U (Skrillex + Diplo) as the main characters, the scene is set as the super duo set out to find their “schtick” with the help of Grandma Skrillex. It’s soon discovered that anything on top of your head goes as a motley crew of DJ’s assemble, including Richards, Justin Martin, and Kill The Noise. Everything turns sour, though, as Dillon Francis realizes his pals Diplo and Skrillex have stolen his Strawberry concept and only A-Trak can console… Peep the full video below and take a gander at a lineup that just about scratches any possible Electronic Music itch you might have. The Babe Report: Desert Discoveries for WKND 2
(Welcome back to another killer guest post from none other than Babe in Residence, Miss Victoria Geil herself)
WE 3 BABES made it back alive to Los Angeles out of the desert. We survived a sandstorm, several marriage proposals, and midnight hikes out of the venue. We had a marvelous time, so marvelous that I’m finding myself tempted to reappear for Weekend 2 ;D
By now you’ve already seen a ton of “DOs & DON’Ts” articles regarding Coachella. We’re not here to tell you what to do at Coachella. You know how to party hard without going overboard, so what more do you need to know? I mean, we do know of one SUPER STEALTH area with a clean indoor bathroom & easy access bar that isn’t VIP…but we ain’t tellin’ where it is. That one is best to find all on its own.
What we can tell you are things like don’t fret over the Yuma Tent lines. They might be long at times but they go fast. The Yuma Tent is twice as big this year and twice as glorious. Hot Since 82, The Magician, Tiga, Cajmere, Laurent Garnier, Bicep…Yuma Tent delivers all weekend long, so jump in line – it won’t take long. Also, don’t sleep on the Heineken House: Chela, Human Life (w/Anabel Englund), Anna Lunoe, Flight Facilities & Classixx will all be performing. Same goes for the Do Lab – there’s plenty to see there like The French Express crew (sans Jonas Rathsman) plus acts like Sweater Beats, Kidnap Kid & many others. And most of all, GO SEE OUTKAST. Don’t listen to what people said about them in Weekend 1. I was there. Sure the energy level could have been a little higher (from the performers AND the crowd). And sure their special guests were a bit lackluster. It didn’t matter. They still sounded great & the set list was amazing. I imagine they’ll make a few minor tweaks and be even better in Weekend 2.
OK, here are FIVE BUZZY TUNES that set the desert on fire last weekend & are sure to get you going Weekend 2. GO FORTH, 2ND WEEKENDERS!
Lorde – Tennis Court (Flume Remix)
The Gobi Tent could barely contain massive crowd for Flume & once this song played, the tent exploded.
AlunaGeorge – This Is How We Do It
Miss Aluna Francis is a superstar in the making. She brought some serious desert swervin’ to the Gobi Tent with this one.
GusGus – Crossfade (Maceo Plex Remix)
Maceo Plex played the biggest, baddest Yuma Tent set of the weekend & this track drew countless oohs & ahhs. Cue the air blasters!
Disclosure x Friend Within – The Mechanism
Excitement levels were high for this track going into Coachella, so who better to drop this bomb on the Yuma Tent than The Magician himself. The bearded man in the tux played a ballsier set than most expected. It was non-stop magic.
Oliver Heldens – Gecko
There was a Gecko loose in the Yuma Tent during The Magician’s set & it went WILD. Just ask our very own BONES.
A collaboration between Christopher Kristoff and the San Diego-based DJs Mikey Lion, Lee Reynolds, Marbs, and Porkchop, along with the recent member, Andy Crane, has yielded the stand-out festival known as Desert Hearts, which has been heralded as “One of the best electronic music experiences in America” by Resident Advisor. Desert Hearts was established as a community-oriented house and techno gathering with the goal of achieving a memorable energetic ambiance, while maintaining high musical integrity – and from what I’ve heard, they do just that + more.
After a massively successful 1 year anniversary, they return for their Spring festival that features world-class headline artists like Tim Green, DJ T, Matthew Dekay, Droog, Christian Martin, and a plethora of the finest local talent including Tara Brooks, Eduardo Castillo, Jon Dadon, Kevin Anderson, and of course, the Desert Hearts DJs, amongst others (listed above). With this fantastic group of artists behind the decks, one can be sure that there will be proper house and techno bumping through Funktion-One sound systems all weekend long. Check out the video after the jump to get a visual for the Desert Hearts vibe, and be sure to grab your tickets here to experience this intimate gathering first hand. We’ll see you there!
All different walks of life converged in Oakdale, California over the weekend during the Autumnal Equinox for Symbiosis Gathering; a period of time where the balance between the light and dark inside you, and around you, dances in harmony one last time. As the impending Winter slowly overpowers the days of Summer, thousands gathered at the Woodward Reservoir for a festival that was much more about a way of life, than it was music. Their plea for respectful patron-ship echoed loudly in the festival community and came to fruition through careful planning and preparation. With a deep passion for Environmentalism and sustainable living, the festival organizers provided a space that allowed for transformative experiences in the realms of art, music, and community. Brain stimulation ran rampant throughout the different activities scheduled throughout the five days of “Symbi,” as it came to be called. Continue Reading
