The excitement is heating up as we’re only 2 days away until Colorado’s Vail Valley gets transformed into the winter wonderland of noise known as Snowball Music Festival. After a huge success with last years debut and a memorable follow up @ Snowglobe for New Years, the anticipation couldn’t be higher for what’s becoming the staple seasonal music event in the rocky mountains. With a beefed up lineup and a array of great late night events, there is something for every festival-goers taste. This year, GDD will also be hosting an official after party on Friday night! Snowball Music Festival is returning to Vail Valley, Colorado, for three days of beats, hot cocoa, and igloo parties. The sister festival to Lake Tahoe’s Snowglobe, Snowball has put together a lineup including Bassnecter, Rusko, Beats Antique, and the one and only Dillon Francis. The festival grounds are in close proximity to world class slopes, so grab your snowboard & ear plugs, and get ready for some fun in the snow. 3 day passes start at $159 for GA.
As summer chugs along and the dog days approach the temperature only continues to rise out here on the Best Coast. Expect a massive heat wave to hit this Thursday though as the mad Belgian scientists known as Mumbai Science descend upon the Mile High City to start their mini 2011 Summer Tour that will see them lighting up clubs from the Rockies to the Bay to the Border as they drop festival firestarters like ‘Ancova‘ & ‘Gold‘ in intimate venues like our very own Versus (August 4th!)
Having the chance to see this rising act, that now routinely plays for 1000s, in relatively small venues is an experience and opportunity you probably won’t have again as their ascent to stardom continues, so make sure you get yo’ tickets for one of these 7 gigs while you can! Along the way they’ll be getting support from longtime GDD™ backed Canadian John Roman, Aussie insane-asylum-escapees Bareback DJ’s, the lovely Brazzabelle, our very own ///BONES and various local talent in each city. More details including dates and ticketing links (and some tunes) after the jump! Oh and if you don’t remember our interview/mix with Mumbai, peep it over here!
For those of you in Colorado that were bummed on missing EDC Las Vegas (even though you guys got your own EDC), I’m sure you’re already set for this weekend’s madness at Global Dance Festival 2011. With Colorado gaining more respect as one of the top hubs of the electronic music scene in North America, Global keeps getting bigger and better each year, this time around boasting a massive 3-day lineup that’s pretty much divided into Groovy, Heavy, and Ravey. Unfortunately we will not be out there for this one, but our good friends over @ JammyPack will have a merchandise booth set up, so be on the look out for fanny packs with speakers and of course the 3D Tut.
WATCH OUT FOR: Our buddy and Denver native Ecto-Cooler, who landed a spot opening the Scion bass stage on Friday evening! To get all you ready for the rave on the rocks, we have his summer mix cued up for y’all below.
Attention GDD Colorado massive!!! After the sell-out Steve Aoki show in Boulder we’ve teamed up alongside RedEye Presents and Got Bass to bring back to back nights to Colorado with two of the fastest rising stars in dubstep and heavy bass: Calvertronand Figure on Wednesday, May 4th in Fort Collins and Thursday, May 5th in Denver. Calvertron has reinvented himself from his fidget house days by taking on an entirely new sound. Dubstep, drum n bass, and wonky basslines fuse to dominate the Beatport charts and leave fans screaming for more. Figure on the other hand has cemented himself as one of the leaders in the drumstep and heavy bass scene, churning out new releases every few weeks that have earned the raving support from heavy hitters on all sides with Skrillex, Datsik, Diplo, and Reid Speed rinsing his tunes in their sets over the past few months.
(If you needed any more proof these guys are smashing the game, take a look at Beatport right now and you’ll see Figure has the #1, #3, and #5 spot in the drum n bass charts while Calvertron has the #2, #4, #7 spots in the Dubstep charts. Not too shabby. For any basshead, these are not shows to be missed.)
Fresh off of massive performances at Ultra and SXSW and prepping for an equally massive US tour, ZEDS DEAD have gotten love from everyone from BBC Radio 1′s Kissy Sell Out to GQ Magazine to Much Music (Canada’s MTV, remember?) while maintaining the signature raw energy of their live shows alongside the elegant brutality of their productions.
You’ve been chomping at the bit on our GDD Facebook since we announced this release, so without further ado it is my distinct pleasure to present to you ZEDS DEAD – 1975. Full track download, tour dates and a video of Christiano Ronaldo’s righteously (ridiculously) sexy Russian girlfriend Irina Shayk grinding dirty to the track in her intimate wear. Seriously…

In just 3 days, the Rocky Mountains will have an avalanche of bass running down its slopes, all headed towards Vail, Colorado. The Snowball Music Festival will welcome a slew of musicians this weekend, but one of the most anticipated artists on the lineup is LA’s own golden boy 12th Planet. The sweeping popularity of dubstep has found a major hub in the Mile High City, and 12th Planet has become the driving force behind the dub scene in America. Snowball Fest boasts a heavily weighted lineup of bass-driven acts, making for one hell of a wobble that will reach the front range.
12th Planet has been crushing dance floors and crowds in a warpath of tour dates, and this weekend is forecasted to be no exception. To get you on our level of excitement for the festival, we have for you an exclusive promo of “Snack Attack,” his new track featuring Antiserum. Don’t listen to this one with the lights out. WOMP WOMP.
SMOG If that’s not enough bass for your face, get hyped on 12th Planet’s label SMOG, releasing massive tunes recently, including a huge collab with Plastician and an original from Flinch. Scope ‘em out below on the Beatport player!
Way back in 2010 we were lucky enough to be the first blog to post about the young LA trio American Royalty. Well, we are stoked to have gotten the ball rolling for a group that has seemed to blow up in the past 4 months. Since we first posted about their track ‘Lately,’ the positive feedback brought to their unique and creative dance & rock crossover sound has earned them support slots with dance artists such as 12th Planet and Punches, as well as slots for indie rock groups like Kisses and Mini-Mansions. The boys also have been planning for a busy spring, with performances at The Snow Ball Festival (with groups like Pretty Lights, Bassnectar, and Diplo) and a big visit to Austin for SXSW…. playing parties with another wild array of artists including, but not limited to, Strip Steve, Devin Therriault, Fare Soldi, Designer Drugs, and Hanni El Khatib. American Royalty will also be co-headlining two LA dates in late March with Aussie dance rock legends Art vs. Science.
In addition to dominating the stage, the boys’ tunes started showing up all over the place. Their track “Levrolution”, a fan favorite and instant party starter for all tastes, was recently picked to open up a certain little surf video. Also, their track “Lately” received some dark and deep house remix treatment from Belgian wunderkind Vhyce.
Both of these tracks can be streamed below. If you haven’t listened to this band yet… get on it!
To officially kick things off in Colorado, we decided to start things off there with a proper bang! In less than 2 weeks (2/2/2011), GottaDanceDirty.com alongside RedEye and ThisSongIsSick.com are bringing one of the most electrifying DJ’s in dance music today—Steve Aoki–to Boulder, CO at the Boulder Theater on Wednesday February 2nd. Aoki is one of the few names that transcends both mainstream and underground dance music but his buzz has never seemed to die down mostly in part to his constant touring schedule, the success of his label Dim Mak (MSTRKRFT, Bloody Beetroots, PeaceTreaty, etc), and his recent collaborations with guys like Armand Van Helden (“Brrrat”), Sidney Samson (“Wake Up Call”), Afrojack (“No Beef”), or Laidback Luke & Lil’ Jon (“Turbulence”).
If you’ve ever seen Steve Aoki perform live, you know you will be getting your money’s worth—very few DJ’s put on as exciting performances as he does and we know this is going to be an awesome introduction to future events out in the Colorado area.
