The five stages at One Tribe will be hosted by Beatport, iconic Dutch techno brand Awakenings, Jamie Jones’ Paradise, Crosstown Rebels presents Get Lost and B3’s West Coast Legends. To kick off the late September weekend, Friday night showcases the rapidly rising California based Desert Hearts crew, bringing out their inimitable mantra of House Techno Love to One Tribe’s opening night camping experience.

One Tribe sets itself apart on the festival circuit by its incredible location and musical programming. Held in a California State Park, the waterfront stages and sandy beaches on the shores of Lake Perris, make for a beautiful backdrop. The program curation eschews overly commercial names in favor of forward thinking live, house and techno acts.

One Tribe’s musical lineup will be fused with an array of wellness, visual arts and culinary programming, all housed under an overarching theme of Uniting the Tribes. It is through this melding of creative and exploratory fields that the ethos of the gathering emerges, bringing together tribes from across the West as One Tribe. Gathering on the shores of the majestic Lake Perris, we will celebrate Real Music for Real People.

One Tribe is produced by ID&T and Southern California based B3 Productions. ID&T is one of the world’s foremost electronic music event producers, behind iconic properties like TomorrowLand, Mysteryland, Sensation, Q-Dance and Electric Zoo. ID&T is part of the SFX portfolio, boasting over 1,600 annual events with attendance topping six million attendees each year. Groove Armada next up on Little Black Book series

groove-armada-little-black-book-2

Groove Armada have a two-disc release called Little Black Bookcoming via Moda Black in July.

The Little Black Book series falls somewhere between album, mix CD and compilation. (The only previous edition to date came from Hot Since 82 in 2013.) For their instalment, Groove Armada have filled the first disc with their own original music and remixes, including seven exclusive tunes. The second disc features remixes of their music by other artists, with the likes of Joris VoornKolsch and Huxley all on board. An account of the duo’s journey “from Castlemorton to L.A.” penned by Andy Cato is also included in the package.

“People were saying if you’re going to write new material you need to put it out on a major, get the band back together, unleash the machine,” the duo say. “But we don’t want to do that. We want to play and make house music, and that’s all.”

Listen to a new tune from Groove Armada called “Alright,” which features on Little Black Book, below.

Nils Frahm scores German film, Victoria

nils-frahm-victoria

Nils Frahm has scored a one-take German film called Victoria, with the soundtrack seeing release through Erased Tapes on June 15th.

Victoria is a one-take film shot in Berlin by German director Sebastian Schipper. It won the prize for best cinematography at this year’s Berlinale film festival. It has also been nominated in seven categories—including best soundtrack—in the Deutscher Filmpreis, Germany’s highest film award. For his score, titledMusic For The Motion Picture Victoria, Frahm enlisted cellist Anne Müller, violist Viktor Orri Árnason and guitarist Erik K. Skodvin. The soundtrack opens with a DJ Koze edit of Frahm’s “Burn With Me.”

The film is getting released across Germany on June 11th. There are plans to release it in other countries too, including the UK.

Frahm has also published a statement about his score:

Dear viewer and listener,

I’ve finally written music for a film. It took me some time to do so, as I was patiently waiting for a movie that would truly speak to me. When director Sebastian Schipper invited me to work on Victoria, I knew it was worth the long wait. Does such a strong film even need music? I realised it wouldn’t be easy to create a score that embraces these bold pictures.

Luckily we were given unusual creative freedom by approaching the movie together with Sebastian Schipper, who was keeping the production and direction to one single team. The score was recorded in a special location, the former GDR broadcasting production facilities that today host Studio P4. We simply put a big screen in the middle of the room, filled it with microphones and instruments, set the movie on loop and kept improvising on top of it together—my good friends and I.

The guest musicians started their recording session by playing a cohesive take over the course of the whole movie. This was the most interesting part of the day, since they hadn’t seen the film before. They became spectators and creators at once, intuitively recording hundreds of different cues that way. You are about to listen to some of its highlights. I hope they do Victoria and your ears justice.

With love, Nils Frahm

Franskild Release New Track, “Keep On Going”

On the heels of premiering “Need Me” on Indie Shuffle last month, Denmark-based collective f r a n s k i l d move on to score one of 2015’s catchiest club warmers with “Keep On Going.” Proving an ever-consistent European asset, Love Ojensa and Tim Söderström remain on the pulse of electronic music in flaunting their seamless less-is-more approach. Uplifting piano rifts, flickering snares and a scintillating topline pervade the glowing track, what with its infectious house aesthetic fueling “Keep On Going’s” euphoric edge. Layer upon layer of melodic coating buoy f r a n s k i l d’s latest effort as the pair work toward making their long-awaited mark on US soil.
