This year, our hometown hero and dirtybird protegé, Justin Jay, has been making strides in his burgeoning career with successful releases, like his Momentum EP on Pets Recordings, and his Coachella debut in The Do LaB over the weekend. After sitting on this sophomore dorm room-produced secret weapon, “Mind Games,” since the WMC Dirtybird BBQ party a couple of years ago, he’s finally releasing it via Annie Mac’s Free Music Monday. On the track, Justin Jay merges funk-infused elements with a punchy, evolving bassline, and shuffling percussion for a groove that oozes with feel-good vibes. With this release, his imminent USC graduation, and plans for touring in the UK and Europe in the coming months, Justin Jay is about to have an excellent summer.
Here are a few words about the song from Justin Jay himself, “I made Mind Games 2 years ago, during the spring of my Sophomore year in college. I wanted to make something that could bring funky, feel-good vibes to the Dirtybird BBQ party during WMC that year. This track ended up becoming a staple in my sets for the whole summer and it’s still a favorite among my homies at school. With college coming to an end and Annie Mac on board, it feels like perfect timing to give you guys this tried and tested secret weapon.”
