Culprit celebrates five years with global showcases
Culprit is in the midst of its fifth anniversary celebrations.
The label started in LA back in 2009 with a release from H.E.A.D.S., going on to count the likes of Subb-an, Lee Foss, MANIK and Adriatique among its ranks. Since the beginning it’s grown into quite an empire of gigs and parties around the world, perhaps most famously the Culprit series of of summer rooftop parties in LA, which will have an early jumpstart this year with an April 27th show featuring Maya Jane Coles and Edu Imbernon.
From there, they’ll begin a fifth anniversary tour that’ll bring their artists all around the world, but only a few gigs have been announced so far. Justin Jay, a local who debuted on Culprit last year, will rep the crew in Panama City on May 10th and Albuquerque a week later on the 17th, and then he’ll head to New York to join a larger crew with Lee Curtiss and UK label associates jozif and Matt Tolfrey for a special nighttime Culprit Sessions at Verboten. Tickets for that one are available on RA, and more five-year celebration gigs are set to be announced soon.

Hyperdub Details New Kyle Hall 12″, Shares Mini-Mix from Kode9
Celebrating 10 years of releasing quality, uncompromising electronic music from around the world, Hyperdub has its sights set on a very big year for 2014. New records from the likes of Cooly G, Fatima Al Qadiri, and King Britt’s Fhloston Paradigm alias have alreadybeen announced or released, and we’ve also received the details of the first in a series of four compilations that will arrive this year to help celebrate the anniversary. Adding to that today, the label has unveiled a forthcoming 12″ from Detroit iconoclast Kyle Hall(pictured above) and a mini-mix of new music from Hyperdub honcho Kode9.
Kyle Hall’s “Girl U So Strong” b/w “Take Me Away” 12″ will be the first record to arrive with a previously unreleased track lifted from the upcoming Hyperdub 10.1 comp, and is set to drop on May 12, one week before the aforementioned collection hits retailers. That record’s a-side is among the myriad tracks crammed into Kode9’s 10-minute Hyperdub 10.1 Mini-Mix, which also features new productions from Mala, Kuedo, DJ Rashad, the mixmaster himself, and others. Though no tracklist was shared, Kode9’s quick session can be streamed in full below. The artwork for Hall’s “Girl U So Strong” b/w “Take Me Away” is also below.
