Richie Hawtin confirms new Plastikman album

Richie Hawtin has confirmed that a new Plastikman album is on the way.

It’ll be the first time Hawtin has released material via his famed alias in a while. Speaking to Société Perrier during Miami Art Week, he told of how a recent performance at the Guggenheimin New York inspired him to finish a Plastikman LP.

“It put me back in the studio and inspired me enough to work on new material, and in five days I created a new album,” he said.

The video interview, which you can watch below, shows Hawtin explaining how he thinks that art is synonymous with music and how he finds inspiration in spaces such as the Guggenheim and his brother’s studio, as well as in the work of Anish Kapoor.

Apparently the Guggenheim set sparked a fresh wave of creativity for the techno titan.

“Music came out of me because of the opportunity to play in this beautiful architectural place that is actually renowned for art, not music. And now there’s a new Plastikman album,” he also said.

Looks like 2014 will be a busy one for Hawtin, who will take the Plastikman show to Sonar in the summer, alongside a performance under his own name.
