Nervo steps up for their debut Essential Mix
A few years back, Melbourne-bred sister act Nervo were busy making their name as songwriters, penning little known underground jams like Davis Guetta’s When Love Takes Over. Lately, though, the focus has shifted to their own work – they’ve been a fixture on festival mainstages everywhere from Tomorrowland to Future Music Festival and collaborated with the likes of Steve Aoki, Afrojack and Nicky Romero, filling out their schedule with residencies in Ibiza and at Vegas’ new superclub Hakkasan.
If it wasn’t already, the transition from songwriters to artists in their own right is now certifiably complete – Mim and Liv Nervo have just polished off their first Essential Mix. “We’ve structured this Essential Mix much like we go our monthly NERVONation radio shows,” the twins explained, introducing their debut visit to the Radio 1 studios. “We start a little house-ier, build it up and then end on a deeper note. We’ve put in a heap of our own records including Like Home, Reason and have also added a load of mash-ups and remixes we’re currently playing. There’s also a couple of exclusives in there: our next single Not Taking This No More, plus a mash-up from our friends Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike.”
So as you’d expect, there’s no shortage of party-starting tunes. Alongside their own work, the mix also spans Beatport record breaker Martin Garrix’s #1 hit Animals, Calvin Harris’ take on Fatboy Slim’s Eat Sleep Rave Repeat, the Mat Zo remix of Empire of the Sun’s new single Alive and an opener from July’s Essential Mix star Breach. Daft Punk Tease ‘Lose Yourself to Dance” video
Daft Punk premiered a video clip of ‘Lose Yourself To Dance’ at last night’s VMA Awards.
The appearance by the legendary French electronic music duo on the American music awards show comes after rumours that they were going to feature as part of Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report a few weeks ago.
Shortly before they were due to appear on The Colbert Report, Daft Punk had to pull out amid reports that they were instead going to perform for MTV.
While there was no performance as such from the pairing, they did premiere a clip of the video for the next single to come from ‘Random Access Memories’, which is ‘Lose Yourself To Dance’.
Their latest single sees Daft Punk once again employ the talents of disco hero Nile Rodgers and all-round cool dude Pharrell Williams, which creates an identical line-up to that which was used for ‘Get Lucky’.
Ahead of teasing the clip for ‘Lose Yourself To Dance’ at the VMAs, which is below, Daft Punk, Rodgers and Williams presented the award for Best Female Video to Taylor Swift.
