“Call My Name” is the first track off LBCK’s soon-to-be released album The Goods. If “Call My Name” is any indication of what’s in store for the new album, then disco funk fans should be in for a treat. On “Call My Name”, it’s evident that LBCK appreciate the value of a slow, funky, repetitive groove (Tiger & Woods are another fine example of disco funk duos who have elevated the repetitive groove into an art form). Repetition can be a slippery slope when it comes to production. If it’s done wrong, the listener will label the track as a snooze fest. But when the repetitive groove is done correctly, the listener can be mesmerized. Such is the case on “Call My Name”. It’s a slower brand of soulful disco funk that is a bit of a change from their prior, more upbeat work. But LBCK fans need not worry…it still packs that same funky punch that’ll leave you hypnotized.
