Video: Carl Craig Talks About Detroit, From City Landmarks To Personal Memories

Sourdoreille, a French music website collective of music journalists and videographers, decided to interview Carl Craig the day after Detroit’s announcement of bankruptcy. The interview takes an interesting approach, by having Carl show photographs of famous landmarks, people, and events in Detroit that Carl holds dear to him. It’s a nice insight into the city that has a rich history, despite its current financial state. From the Detroit Institute of Art with its famous mural by Diego Rivera to photos of the first DEMF (known today as Movement Electronic Music Festival), from the Heidelberg Project to the Music Hall Center, Carl Craig gives his personal experiences and stories and what makes each place special to Detroit. As to the future of Detroit, he comments it may not change until more people come in to this beautiful, meaningful city.

Sampha performs inside his London home

Sampha, the vocalist who has collaborated with the likes of Jessie Ware, Drake and most notably SBTRKT, has given an intimate look inside his home and recording studio in London.

In a new interview with Yours Truly, he explained the driving force behind his music.

He said: “I think I’ve made my best music when I have stresses in life. I use music as my getaway.”

Featuring heavily on SBTRKT’s self-titled 2011 debut album, Sampha has this week released his six track EP, ‘Dual’ on Young Turks. Watch him perform his new song, ‘Indecision’, as well as the rest of the interview, below.

Watch Shigeto Perform New Single “Detroit Part 1″

As part of its ongoing Car Sick series, Portland’s Into the Woods has filmed a session withGhostly signee Shigeto, in which the musician/producer performs a live rendition of new single “Detroit Part 1.” The tune is lifted from the forthcoming No Better Time Than NowLP, and finds the artist deftly melding his inclinations for jazz and instrumental hip-hop into one smoothly shuffling and nod-inducing tune. Before Shigeto’s next record drops on August 20, the video of his impromptu vehicular performance can be seen below, courtesy of The A/V Club.
