Claude VonStroke to return with third album, Urban Animal
Over its eight years of activity, house imprint Dirtybird has provided a platform for a couple of breakout stars (Eats Everything, Julio Bashmore), popular regulars (The Martin Brothers, French Fries) and the occasional legend (Cajmere). VonStroke’s output has continued to swell, with a pair of eclectic studio albums and a string of unpretentious 12″s under his belt.
Dirtybird will mark its 100th release with a new VonStroke album – his third to date, and his first since 2009′s well-received Beware Of The Bird. Urban Animal promises a rejoinder to “the impersonality of constant social media and mobile interaction”, and threatens to be his most diverse collection to date. Lead single ‘Can’t Wait/The Clappping Track” is available to stream below.
Urban Animal is due on September 17 on vinyl, CD and digital formats.
1. URBAN ANIMAL
2. THE CLAPPING TRACK
3. CAN’T WAIT
4. THE BRIDGE
6. LAY IT DOWN REVISITED ft. Dj Nehpets
7. OAKLAND ROPE ft. Mr. Fox & Py

Four Tet announces next album, Beautiful Rewind
Now a strong six albums deep, electronic innovator Four Tet has just announced details of his seventh studio album, ‘Beautiful Rewind’.
The LP produced by Kieran Hebden will contain 11 tracks and will be released on CD, vinyl and digitally.
Four Tet announced the album earlier today with a post on his blog which then subsequently crashed the site.
In the wake of the producer pulling his tracks from Spotify he tweeted earlier about the way in which the album would be released: “No pre-order, no YouTube trailers, no iTunes stream, no Spotify, no Amazon deal, no charts, no bit coin deal, no last minute Rick Rubin.”
Head over to the Four Tet website for the full tracklist and album artwork.
Gaslamp Killer’s near death experience: “I can’t drink or do drugs ever again”
Despite a big summer of gigs planned, the Gaslamp Killer has suffered a setback that will keep him off the tour circuit for a while: an accident on his scooter that proved to be a legitimate near-death experience for the Los Angeles beatmaker, eventually told that he was only a mere three hours away from dying from internal bleeding. Last week the wild-haired virtuoso otherwise known as William Bensussen opened up to local paper the L.A. Weekly about exactly what happened.
He’s confirmed he was simply heading home on his electric scooter after watching a bootleg copy ofSuperman at a friend’s house. “I started going down this hill and the wind took my hat, so I removed one hand to grab the hat and tried to squeeze the brakes,” he told the L.A. Weekly, “but I was squeezing the front brakes and flipped my whole shit.”
What followed was a fairly grisly ordeal, vividly retold by the producer. After being taken to the USC-County medical hospital, it took some time before staff noticed the severity of his internal bleeding. He was immediately put into surgery and woke up 24 hours later with a dozen staples suture his chest stretching from his belly button to his breastplate.
As Bensussen recounted, he’s now missing a spleen; a development that he says has reinforced some recent lifestyle changes. “I can’t drink or do drugs ever again,” he told L.A. Weekly, confirming that he’d already recently shed some of the wilder aspects of the DJ lifestyle.
“I literally could fucking die from alcohol,” he went on. “I could load up and turn blue and die from a night of drinking. Fall asleep and not wake up. I’m not talking like ecstasy and coke. I’m not even talking psychedelics. Just drinking…
“I feel like I was given this opportunity to slow the fuck down again, and get inside my own head, and really try and create some dope music instead of fucking burning my brains out. It’s time for me to go back inside my soul and see what comes out.”
Preview FaltyDL’s Upcoming Single for Swamp81
Brooklyn house innovator FaltyDL is poised to make another splash this year, after he kicked off 2013 in fine form with his excellent, XLR8R Pick’d Hardcourage LP in January. His next record will arrive via Swamp81 in the near future, but before then, we can preview one of its slick dancefloor tunes. With little more than the note “Forthcoming Swamp81,” the DJ/producer born Drew Lustman posted a sizable clip of “Power” to his SoundCloud page. We have no other information regarding this record (release date, artwork, tracklist, etc.), but the music seems to be more than enough to satiate any FaltyDL fans while they await further details.
