The Dirt #120: Troy Kurtz & Burn Unit

Dirt 120 Troy Kurtz Burn Unit

Apologies for the hiatus, friends. Last week that evil siren Vegas clutched the GDD™ crew tightly in her grasp and forbade us from blessing your ears with that week’s dosage of The Dirt. Alas, here we go, with ten tracks curated by our own Troy Kurtz & Burn Unit, fresh off two killer sets aboard the GDD™ Presents: Wide Awake Art Car Stage at Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas. Get it into you.

Blackstreet – No Diggity (Bondax Remix)

I vividly remember being 8 years old and watching the original music video for this on MTV and my mother freaking out, banning me from watching MTV anymore. The music video was just too sexy. If only mom had heard this Bondax remix, she might’ve just thrown away the damn TV.

MJ Cole – Sincere (Tanka’s Birthday Booty)

Sultry vocals + rumbling bassline + piano = House anthem! It can’t really be that simple, but this song makes it seem so.

STUFF – Remember The Time

Deep, deep bass and iconic Michael Jackson vocals drive this one and make it a perfect summer pool party weapon. Just when you’ve lulled everyone into a steel drum and tropi-disco trance drop this one on them and see what happens.

City High – What Would You Do (Bailey Remix)

An amazing free release courtesy of UKF’s new dark cousin, SubSoul. City High may have been one-hit wonders with their 2001 ghetto anthem What Would You Do?, but Bailey gives this one a 2013 reboot that does wonders to revitalize the classic tune.

Shadow Child & My Nu Leng – Pago (Drum and Bass Edit)

The track was offered up as a free download courtesy of Red Bull Studios, and for that, we thank them. This sounds like it’d be comfortable in deep house set, but could properly turn a DnB party on its head as a closing track. I’ve seen Justin Martin pull this bait and switch numerous times and get a great reaction.

TK’s Summer Selections

1. Ninetoes – Finder
My dear friend Bones and I made an edit of this track on the beach in Mexico earlier this month, using it as a tool to open sets with. The steal drums pair extremely well with frozen drinks and suntan lotion.

2. Cajmere, Sonny Fodera You’re The One (Pleasurekraft Remix)

This past weekend in Las Vegas, the GDD Team gave it hell. Prior to EDC kicking off on Friday night, we started flexing on Thursday at Lavo with the Dirtybird crew & Cajmere. The emotions were high and my love for the legend that is Green Velvet was reaffirmed.

3. Wax Motif & Neoteric x Breach x Todd Terry – Get Down & JackUnless you’ve been shipwrecked on an island with no internet access, then you’ve surely heard Breach’s anthem that is Jack. Here’s a fun edit that Neoteric put together if you want a tasty new flavor.

4. Phoenix – Trying To Be Cool (Soul Clap Remix)
The Soul Clap guys absolutely smashed this remix of Phoenix. Pure class from two radical gentleman.

5. Here Is Why – TonightThis little slice of synth-pop heaven will definitely help you sail off into summer.
