Watch ‘Random Access Memories Unboxed’
With a stream of the full album suspected to come today and more tracks being leaked by the day, Daft Punk have released one of the most tantalising teasers yet.
The robots have uploaded a video of them on board a hi-tech spaceship unboxing the ‘Random Access Memories’ vinyl.
Here we see the vinyl being opened to reveal a large photo of the perspex glass synth that “>we suggested had been specially created for the album.
The video comes together when the vinyl is placed on the record player to reveal a snippet of the opening track ‘Give Life Back To Music’.
Check out the video below, and put your Daft Punk gearstick up a notch.
Todd Edwards confirms BBC Essential Mix, with “help” from Daft Punk and Giorgio Moroder
Todd Edwards, king of the cut-up, will broadcast to the nation this coming Saturday.
The New Jersey producer has long earned his stripes, pushing his distinctive brand of decoupage house since the early 1990s. His profile’s set to rise once again with an exuberant vocal appearance on Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories, a turn we described in our album preview as “like that great scene in Love Actually where Hugh Grant’s driver starts belting out carols.”
In a Twitter message, Edwards confirmed that he’ll be on BBC Essential Mix duty this Saturday. His two hour set follows recent contributions from Atoms For Peace and Mala, and will feature a stash of unreleased material. His message reads:
The rumors are true: I’ll be doing this week’s @essentialmix! Lots of classics and some new surprises & exclusives.
A second message also offers some insight into what we can expect from the mix – including some very big names indeed:
I’d like to thank [Daft Punk's company] Daft Arts, Giorgio, Johnny Jewel, my manager @echoparkrecords, my brothers @soundpellegrino & everyone who helped w my mix.
Tune in on Saturday at 1.00am GMT to hear Edwards show off his record collection (well, the bits of it he hasn’t flogged on eBay). If you’re looking forward to tuning in on Saturday, we’d advise spending some time with Edwards’ vintage FACT mix from 2010 – one of our all-time favourites, and a set similarly stuffed with “unheard tracks from the archives.”

John Talabot Announces New Single
In a long belated move, Balaeric dance specialist John Talabot has announced a single from his outstanding 2012 record, ƒin, the seminal cut and Pional collaboration “So Will Be Now.” To be released on 12″ only, the single will feature both the original mix and a special extended club edit which revamps Talabot’s patient soundscapes for the dancefloor. “So Will Be Now” is due out on June 7 via Permanent Vacation, but the week prior, the producer will be headlining MUTEK’s Nocturne 4, which will also feature Laurel Halo, Nosaj Thing, and more.
Low End Theory to come to London
After a frankly ridiculous night last Friday, Village Underground will be once again welcoming The Gaslamp Killer (pictured) back this August.
This time the experimental bass producer will be bringing LA’s Low End Theory night to London on August 16.
Joining Gaslamp Killer will be Daddy Kev, DJ Nobody, D-Styles, Nocando and special guest Kutmah.
