Billboard launches new EDM chart
Billboard magazine have just debuted their new Dance/Electronic chart that is exclusively comprised of the latest EDM releases, with pop producer Will.i.am currently holding the number one spot.
To avoid any confusion as to what exactly qualifies as EDM, Billboard have said that: “titles eligible for the chart will be determined based on the song’s core sound and tempo.”
There’s no room for crossovers though, as tracks that remix samples from genres such as – r&b, hip-hop, rock and pop won’t be eligible for chart listing.
The Dance\Electronic Songs chart will take four factors into consideration when tallying it’s listings – digital sales, the number of radio plays, data streaming and finally an esteemed panel of 140 club DJs will report their playlists to Billboard.
Will.i.am and Britney Spears currently top the list with Calvin Harris, David Guetta, Swedish House Mafia and Zedd all following behind, making it into the top ten.
Avicii announces “The Avicii Hotel”
Despite having his laptop stolen a couple of weeks ago, Avicii is working on opening his own hotel of sorts.
While the Swedish producer may not be opening an actual hotel, he is working on a project entitled ‘The Avicii Hotel’ in time for Miami Music Week 2013.
The producer’s manager Ash Pournouri revealed mysterious details via Dancing Astronaut: “I guess the cat’s out of the bag now. Miami 2013 let’s do this bigger and better! Site launch and rooms announced soon. Keep a look out.”
Hudson Mohawke Signs to G.O.O.D. for Production
Hudson Mohawke has signed to Kanye West‘s G.O.O.D. Music imprint. But as the TNGHTproducer specified on Twitter, he’s been signed strictly for production work– his solo work will still come out via Warp.
Footprintz prepare Escape Yourself
Entitled Escape Yourself, the 12-track opus will be the first full-length from Clarian North and Adam Hunter, who met in Montreal aged 15. It’s due out on Visionquest, the label run by Lee Curtiss, Ryan Crosson, Seth Troxler and Shaun Reeves. So far Visionquest has been the main home for the Canadian duo’s signature brand of woozy synth-pop, having released their debut 12-inch in 2011 and two subsequent EPs—The Favourite Game and Dangers Of The Mouth—last year.
A press release quotes North and Hunter as saying: “We wanted to work around a concept of escaping the confused years of growing up. 16-25, those are the years where you’re figuring yourself out, going through the motions of meeting different people and finding new things”. The pair added that they hoped the album would be something “that kids can listen and escape to.”
