Four Tet releases free album
Four Tet may have only released Pink a few months ago, but as ever Kieran Hebden’s not slowing down. Today the UK maestro released a new LP, for free download no less, via his Soundcloud. Hebden uploaded 0181 late last night, a selection of unreleased material made between 1997 and 2001. Though at 38 unbroken minutes long, it’s more one long song than an album with distinct tracks. “People keep asking for a tracklist,” Hebden posted on Twitter. “It’s just one track…it’s just 0181.”
Good news for the wax devotees, too – Hebden’s indicated 0181, a more jazz-focused offering than his recent output, will get a vinyl release sometime in the future. In the meantime, dive into the digital version below. 0181 comes off the back of a busy run for Hebden: in August, he released Pinkthrough Text, a collection of vinyl singles released over the course of the previous year and one of ITM’s favourite releases of 2012. Before that, he left his mark on the Fabric series, teamed up with fellow whizz Burial for Nova and in April released the 45-minute Conference of the Birds mix. Knowing Four Tet, we can expect plenty more Soundcloud gems to come over the course of the year.
Kavinsky set to drop debut album in February
A couple of years on from Kavinsky landing himself on high rotation with the Drive soundtrack gemNightcall, Vincent Belorgey (as he’s known to his Mum) has announced he’s gearing up to release his first full-length album. Titled Outrun, Kavinsky’s big debut will be dropping through Casablanca Records on February 26.
Kavinsky’s recruited Ed Banger dude/longtime pal SebastiAn to produce, meaning we can probably expect more of that signature French electro. Further details on the album, however, are being kept under wraps for the time being. But the debut’s certainly been a while in the making: over the past few years, the Frenchman’s been hard at work carving out a place in his homeland’s still-chugging electro scene. As well as acting in Mr. Oizo’s 2007 film Steak, Belorgey’s released the EPs Teddy Boy, 1986 and Blazer and remixed the likes of A-Trak, Sebastien Tellier and Klaxons, winning support from Bromance head Brodinski along the way. Then there was that time he supported big guns Daft Punk on tour, going back-to-back with SebastiAn in Sydney before the iconic pair came on stage. Most recently, he’s dropped the first single from the album, Protovision – listen to it below.
But lucky for us, Outrun ’s only one of many upcoming 2013 releases inthemix is getting excited for. To cherrypick a few, we can also look forward to the first album in seven years from Swedish recluses The Knife, the debut album from 2012 breakout stars Disclosure and, of course, the (likely) return of French overlords Daft Punk. Check out the full list of ITM’s most anticipated 2013 releases below.
Joy Orbison makes a trip to North America
Joy Orbison will embark on a short tour of North America in February.
UK producer and DJ Peter O’Grady, who scored big with “Ellipsis” last year—our #3track of 2012—doesn’t make it stateside very often, last appearing in the US almost two years ago. He was slated to play co-headlining shows with Ben UFO late last year in Chicago, Washington DC and Miami, but those were cancelled due to “circumstances beyond [his] control.” The short tour will include makeup dates for all three cities.
O’Grady will begin in Canada, playing Montreal’s Igloofest and Toronto’s Wrongbar on February 8th and 9th. He goes to Washington the following evening to play the U Street Music Hall for a Red Bull Music Academy Event, and he’ll stay on that side of the border for the final three dates. That stretch begins on February 14th, hitting Chicago’s Smart Bar, a Blkmarket Membership NonPlus+ showcase in NYC that also features Boddika and finally a SAFE party in Miami.
Feb 09 Embrace & Platform present Joy Orbiso.., Wrongbar, Toronto
Feb 10 Red Bull Music Acade.., U Street Music Hall, Washington DC
Feb 14 Wolfpack Smart Bar 1 Year Anniversa.., Smart Bar, Illinois
Feb 15 Blkmarket Membership presents.., TBA – Brooklyn, New York

Hot Natured give away track and sign to Pete Tong’s label
Having achieved chart success with ‘Benediction’ in November, Hot Natured have made their ‘Assimilation’ track available for free download.
Featuring the vocals of Ali Love and Kenny Glasgow (of Art Department fame), the single first featured in 2011 in Jamie Jones’ Fabric mix, and has been causing waves ever since.
Hot Natured have also just announced their signing to Pete Tong’s label FFRR / Warners.
Tong said of the signing: “Electronic dance music has the world’s attention right now, and I’m sure the release of Hot Natured’s album in the early summer will take the story to another level.”

Sonar 2013 announces a batch of new acts, including Karenn, Nicolas Jaar and Gold Panda
Barcelona festival Sonar has announced a new batch of acts for 2013.
One of Europe’s most talked about festivals, Sonar takes place from June 13 to 15 and is split into two events: Sonar by Day, which takes place across four different venues close to Barcelona’s MACBA museum and Sonar by Night, which takes place at a colossal four-room hanger further fron the city’s centre. Generally speaking, Sonar by Day is a more live-orientated affair while Sonar by Night is more DJ-based, but as with any festival of this size there’s a lot of crossover between the two.
We already knew that electronic innovators Kraftwerk would be premiering a new 3D audiovisual show at Sonar 2013; the group recently caused the Tate Modern’s website to break through demand for their recently-announced residency in the Turbine Hall. Vatican Shadow, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Lindstrom and Todd Terje and Two Door Cinema Club were also early confirmations.
Today’s announcement includes the addition of new Warp act Darkstar, who will be releasing their sophomore album News From Nowhere in the coming months, US dance music up-and-comer Baauer, Spanish indie-trance troupe Delorean, Foreign Beggars, Gold Panda, Hot Natured (a.k.a. Jamie Jones, Lee Foss, Luca C and Ali Love), restless rockers Liars, Mykki Blanco, Maceo Plex, Karenn (a.k.a. Pariah and Blawan, above), Adrian Sherwood & Pinch and a live show from the ever-divisive Nicolas Jaar.
For tickets and more information, head to the Sonar website.
