Hook N Sling at LAVO NY 8/9/12

LAVO New York never disappoints when they bring in DJs for their dance music nights. More of a nightclub setting, LAVO has an intimate atmosphere where club goers can dance right next to the DJ booth and sometimes, if you’re lucky, even up on stage.

Thursday night they hosted Hook N Sling for a party that can only be described as crazy-fun. Dropping tracks like Qulinez – Troll (Sick Individuals Remix), Mozaik – Michael Calfan (Hook N Sling remix) and Nicky Romero – Generation 303, Hook N Sling kept the energy level high and the dancefloor packed. The party got even more out of control when LAVO passed out hundreds of foam light sticks. People were dancing on tables and couches and everyone was singing along to “Young Blood” by The Naked and Famous (Tiesto and Hardwell Remix).
During the nearly 2 hour set, Hook N Sling dropped several crowd favorites and many of his own tracks, remixes and bootlegs, but I would have to say that my favorites from his set were:

Overall, Hook N Sling’s performance was fantastic. He definitely brought his A-game and that, combined with the smaller venue and great crowd, made this one of the better events I have been to in a long time.

Make sure to check out LAVO for Dash Berlin on August 23rd.

John Digweed, Danny Tenaglia, Pleasurekraft and more…Saturday 8/11

Saturday, Made Event put on the legendary John Digweed with Danny Tenaglia, Pleasurekraft and Sleepy & Boo at the Governors Island Beach Club. It could not have been a more perfect day as Sleepy and Boo, arguably New York’s favorite married duo, started out. They were soon followed by Kaveh Soroush of Pleasurekraft, who was my personal favorite of the night. John Digweed’s set was well mixed but lacked energy and the crowd was somewhat reserved as he spun, but Danny Tenaglia definitely brought the crowd back to life and ended the night with a bang.

Track of the night:

After seeing this show I’m definitely looking forward to what Made has to offer at the Electric Zoo Festival at the end of the month!

Thomas Gold, Norman Doray and Tim Mason, Sunday 8/12

Thomas Gold, Norman Doray and Tim Mason’s performance at the Governors Island Beach Club was the highlight of my weekend and certainly a spectacle. The venue was already packed for Tim Mason’s set and he did not disappoint. Craziness ensued as Norman Doray took over, dropping crowd favorites like Gregor Salto’s “Azumba” and Nicky Romero & Avicii’s “Nicktim.”

Finally, Thomas Gold took the stage with his infamous drumline. I was really amazed by how well the live drums complemented Thomas’ DJing. And with huge red “fanfare” horns decorating the stage, tons of gold confetti and a 2 hour set, this was one party you will be sad to have missed.

Stay tuned later this week for our next NY Weekend Picks!
