On this somber day in the music world we’ve decided to go with a strictly Diva inspired Dirt selection. The Divas of decades past did a tremendous amount to promote dance music around the globe, and one of the true Divas of all time was definitely Donna Summer, who sadly passed away this week. There are plenty of gems in here, from Divas both past and present, and these .zips will definitely be good for those long summer Saturdays just around the corner.
Burn Unit’s .zip file (5 Tracks)
Kicking things off for my little Donna Summer tribute I decided to avoid going with one of her most popular tracks. Quite frankly, when you’re working with tunes originally produced by Giorgio Moroder it’s sort of hard to fuck things up, but Go Go Bizkitt! knocks this one out of the park.
Gay guys, straight girls, straight guys, gay girls, androids, aliens, your dog, everyone loves this song. Need to fill a dance floor? Play it. We’ll overlook Madonna’s latest forays into dance music and shortsighted advocation of drug use and put her on the pedestal where she belongs among the world’s greatest Divas ever.
Here’s one a lot of you probably have, but if you don’t, you dun fucked up! If you were alive and semi-conscious during the summer of 2011 you likely heard this somewhere. Adele’s voice alone solidifies her as a certifiable Diva, but the way the big girl carries herself is what being a Diva is all about.
• Rihanna ft. Calvin Harris – We Found Love (Solidisco Bootleg)
I know, I know. You’re thinking, “RIHANNA! WTF?!” Hear me out, as Solidisco puts a positively groovy twist on this Big Room mainstream radio hit and makes it cool for just about anyone to listen to. There’s no denying Rihanna’s stature, and the chick really just doesn’t give a fuck. A true sign of a Diva.
The staple of all staples in my poolside Disco sets. Complete with the first ever tasteful rave whistles, it’s a mostly instrumental track that suddenly drops into Donna’s iconic Bad Girls anthem. Been playing this out for years and probably always will. Respect.
• Donna Summer – Sunset People
My all time favorite Donna Summer track, this track was the perfect bridge from the 70s to the 80s. The songs is, and will always be, a late night/bright lights Hollywood anthem.
• Gossip – Perfect World (WAP Slowmo Rework)
Beth Ditto has carried on the Diva torch behind the force + fury of her beautiful voice, perfectly captured here by this We Are Prostitutes slowmo rework.
• Little Boots – Every Night I Say A Prayer (Midnight Affair Remix)
Over the last few years, Little Boots has gone from blog phenom to worldwide sensation and rightfully so. She continues to put out proper Diva-style electro/disco pop tunes including her latest, “Every Night I Say A Prayer”, remixed here w/some flair by Midnight Affair.
• Ronika – Automatic (FireFlowerz Remix)
If newcomer Ronika’s fantastic first track “Automatic” is any indication of what’s to come, then there is certainly hope for the future of pop Divas. Her absolutely brilliant tune “Automatic” gets a high energy house rework here courtesy of FireFlowerz.
• Beni – Someone Just Like You (Posso Remix)
With original sounds + a hard hitting feel for fashion & style, Posso proudly carry a brand of Diva-ness that Donna Summer herself would have been proud of. Check out the Diva duo’s STELLAR remix of “Someone Just Like You” that Beni himself is already a big fan of.
WE HOPE YOU ENJOYED OUR SMALL, HEARTFELT TRIBUTE TO THE LATE DONNA SUMMER, A TRUE ICON OF DANCE MUSIC
