Kaskade on Electronic Dance Music’s Mainstream Infiltration, Electric Daisy Carnival NYC and His Biggest Tour Ever (Video)
Ryan Raddon, AKA Kaskade, is one of the biggest names in dance music thanks to more than a decade of experience, dozens of raucous collaborations with the likes of Skrillex,Deadmau5 and Dada Life and his share of stellar remixes for such multiplatinum artists as Lady Gaga and Beyonce. And like fellow electronic dance music (EDM) titans Tiestoand Paul van Dyk, he’s taking his brand of magnetic music on the road, kicking off his North American “Freaks of Nature” tour, his biggest to date, on May 25.
Now Los Angeles-based, the Chicago-born DJ sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to talk about his new music video for “Room For Happiness” featuringSkylar Grey and his upcoming festival stops, including Coachella, where he’ll take the stage for the third time.
“Coachella has become something so big and global, people from all over the world look to it as this place that is programming really progressive music,” Kaskade tells THR about the appeal of the event, which will be held on two consecutive weekends this year.
“I guess we’re redefining music a bit, people are paying attention,” says Kaskade of the rapidly growing EDM genre (to wit: last year’s Lollapalooza featured Deadmau5 as a headliner). “It’s cool that people are discovering it now and it’s being utilized in other genres like pop music. It’s interesting to see it reach beyond it’s original borders and boundaries.”
With the scene’s unique sense of community, Kaskade, like other major EDM names, gives off the essence of a small secret club even as the music appeals to millions. Of his peers, Kaskade gives tremendous credit to Diplo “because he’s broken a lot of boundaries,” and also the Grammy-winnig Skrillex, who Kasade describes as “another guy who kind of kicked down the door for a lot of artists in our world.”
For more of Kaskade’s thoughts on his dream collaboration, the growing reach of EDM and his advice to New York on EDC, watch the video above. And see the announced tour dates (with more to come in the coming weeks) below:

Daft Punk Album “Coming Maybe June”
Nile Rogers has already said “it’s going to be amazing”. Now American songwriter Paul Williams has said the new Daft Punk album is “coming maybe June.”
He said: “I have written songs for Daft Punk. This material will appear on their new album, coming maybe June.”
Following a screening of the Paul Williams: Still Alive documentary during the film portion of Austin’s SXSW festival, Williams dropped news that he had been collaborating with the outfit, but didn’t exactly go into to much detail about the project.
The two helmeted men haven’t yet confirmed any more details. Let the speculation continue.
Movement Electronic Music Festival Releases 2nd Round of Acts
Yesterday, Movement Electronic Music Festival announced the second round of artists that will be gracing the stages of Hart Plaza in Detroit, MI.
UK super-producer SBTRKT, dubstepper Dillon Francis, the beat crushing duo Two Fresh-comprised of the brothers Nicholls and accompanied live by drummer Colby Buckler-and Pretty Lights Music’s Michal Menert are among the latest acts scheduled to play this eclectic electronic music festival over the Memorial Day Weekend, May 26 to 28.
Although Movement features a handful of acts that frequently appear at the top of many U.S. EDM festival lineups such as Major Lazer and Claude VonStroke, it appears to be a festival geared more toward die-hard electronic music enthusiasts as opposed to the casual sampler.
While they are not extremely well-known in the States, acts like Busy P, Damian Lazarus, Maceo Plex, Mr. Oizo and Todd Terje are revered by both fans and musicians worldwide, consistenly playing sell-out arenas across Europe and frequently being placed in deejay mixes by respected electronic producers.
Three-day festival passes are available via the festival website for $75.00, with VIP passes available for $200.00. Movement is also offering an easy on the wallet three-part installation payment plan.

Fedde Le Grand at Cosmic Opera New York
Fedde le Grand will be headlining Cosmic Opera Act II: Imbroglio, along with Zedd, Funkagenda, Felix Cartal, David Berrie, and Matt Goldman. The event will be hosted in the same venue, Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC on April 5 and 6.
Act I of Cosmic Opera, which sold out in minutes, introduced an extraordinary new dance experience, combining the incredible talent of Axwell with the beauty of the opera.
The founder of Cosmic Opera, Justin Cohen said: “As it would be for a true Italian opera, our first Act was an overture. It was the initial combination of opera, theater and EDM. In Act II we will continue to build the event series and go deeper to explore the possibilities of Cosmic Opera with Imbroglio.”
Tickets for the event go on sale on March 16 here. Check out the May issue of Mixmag for a full feature on Cosmic Opera.
Tinie Tempah, Chase and Status, Skrillex and Friendly Fires have been confirmed for GlobalGathering 2012.
The UK dance festival has announced a huge line up for July 27 and 28, involving artists from many genres of electronic music including Maverick Sabre, Nero, Labrinth, Magnetic Man and Afrojack.
Chase and Status said: ”GlobalGathering was one of the best festivals we played last summer, and I’m sure this year will be no exception. The crowds at Global are always crazy and we can’t wait to bring our live show back this July.”
The dance music event – one of the biggest in Europe – will also see DJ and producer Armin van Buuren bring his A State of Trance show to the festival. Skrillex was one of the most well received stars of last year’s festival, and will be performing with his live concept The Skrillex Cell, which includes giant 3D projections in the shape of monsters, skeletons and robots moving in time to the music.
Friendly Fires will also take to the Main Stage bringing their brand of indie disco dance.
Other stages at the event include stages put on by UKF Bass Culture, Metropolis & Digital Soundboy, Visionquest, A State of Trance, Hospitality, Godskitchen, Toolroom Knights and Rinse, among others.
GlobalGathering UK takes place at long Marston Airfield, Stratford Upon Avon, with weekend camping tickets available now.
In addition GlobalGathering events will also be held in Belarus on June 30, Ukraine on July 14, Russia on July 21, and South Korea on October 6, visit globalgathering.com/world for more info.
