We love you, Dillon Francis.
A consummate gentleman and production wonderchild alike, Dillon has taken the raw concepts of moombahton and luvstep in the last year and distilled them down into the perfectly polished little gems we know and love today. His latest EP on Skrillex’s label OWSLA is no exception, and we’ve got a first listen of it, with an exclusive download of his new I.D.G.A.F.O.S. 2.0.
Check out the full EP below and be sure to comment and let us know what you think. I’ll then pick the most astute/outrageous/sexy comment and tweet Dillon, at which point you’ll undoubtedly* become a star. Grab the full EP here.
My first impressions? Dillon juggles and refines these genres flawlessly, largely due to the fact that he’s played a huge role in their development.
“Falling Up” starts dreamy with lush textures and thoughtful piano, then steps into time with a detailed march of his signature sound design. Loved up moombahton leads way to a slightly experimental departure for him into synthy, electronic pop.
We continue our intergalactic unicorn voyage through the technicolored cosmos into more of this fantasy chaos with the heavier “Now Hear This.” Dillon puts a great deal of care into the characters his synths create and the result is distinctly narrative and buckets of fun.
Kill The Noise and Dillon Francis at last. Together they deliver a catchy, moombahton jam of more synthplay and fancy, chopped space gibberish, broken up by punchy low end. The best part? Bits of cascading little waterfalls of keytar filling out the complexity of this one.
A more tender (but still brutal) take on I.D.G.A.F.O.S. Which do you prefer? Download below.
All my best,
Steven N. Ewald
