The beautiful love child of 80’s Chicago warehouse parties and the Roland TB-303, acid house is one of the defining sounds of electronic dance music’s history. With Boys Noize Record’s forthcoming SUPER ACID Compilation only a few short weeks away I’ve decided to give you dirty dancers a four-part listening lesson on some acid house classics, each volume complete with one throwback track and one recent release for your aural pleasure.
This week’s classic from 1987 is the granddaddy acid track of all acid tracks, mainly because it’s the (debatably, we’ll get to that next week) first acid track, aptly titled, ‘Acid Trax.’ Over twenty years old and this song still sounds like it’s from zee phuture.
For Volume I’s recent release I bring to you a collaboration between two Scandinavian house music aficionados, Jesper Dahlback and Jori Hulkkonen. A heavier, faster-paced take on the acid sound fit for today’s club environment but tinged with that taste of the future from the past nonetheless.
Come back next week for your second dose.
