So sorry about the delay, dear readers, here’s The Dirt 15! You can take comfort in the fact that this is due largely to the fact that this weekend was our finest in a while. Boys night out to cover the Bassnectar show at the Wiltern with the upstairs balcony quite literally bouncing up and down resulted in a full low end driven mass sync of audience movement. Glad we were on top in case of a snap off disaster. Came up on a stack of new records at the Rose Bowl Flea Market today feat. a Donna Summer 45 for 25 (cents). The highlight, of course, was flying down Sunset Blvd at Tut knows what hour with ///BONES himself blaring the last track I’ve included in this installment. It’s an indian summer in Los Angeles if I know my meteorology that means one thing: night crawler weather. Go creep about, it’s warm out.
• 01. Adrian Lux – Teenage Crime (Axwell & Henrik B Remode) √+
This track made its way out early summer and is still going strong as anything even related to Swedish House Mafia continues to turn to gold. Sunrise big room progressive in furry boots, that first airy vocal still hauntin’ months later.
• 02. Sgt Slick – Like This (Angger Dimas Remix) √+
Recall Angger Dimas from our post on him in April and his percussive banging remix of My Feelings For You which you probably heard in a recent Dada Life set. Laidback Luke backs this Indonesian kid and we do too.
• 04. Deadmau5 – A City In Florida (Original Mix)
This was given out for a while when you purchased a ticket to one of his shows, pretty standard but as with pretty much anything Joel does, worth adding to your library.
• 05. Crookers – Royal T feat. Roisin Murphy (Blamma! Blamma! Blamma! Remix) √+
Hypnotic, droning bass. Massive, hectic lead. Sinister, something you’d hear at 5AM in a club so gross you can’t see your own hands in front of you.
• 06. Geht’s Noch? – Body Jack (Original Mix)
More banging percussion to shake your car and jack your body. +10 to the first comment to correctly translate that name. Careful, we did live in Berlin.
• 07. Martin Solveig & Dragonette – Hello (Sidney Samson Remix)
Poppy, fun and bright– Sidney gets this moving.
• 09. Magnetic Man – Mad
You know it’s Skream as soon as that triumphant, brassy 8-bit lead soars on in. Can he and Benga do no wrong? Props to them for giving this out for free to promote their album, smart move.
• 10. Funtcase – So Vexed √+
Complex, bold and aggressive, the man in the mask is actually a really nice guy. Check our our interview with him here. We expect more good things in the future. This track tears down and rebuilds, deconstructs and winds itself back up, energetic and substantial.
• 11. Afrojack & David Guetta – Louder Than Words
Cheesy, melancholy vocals boom out over the normal polished pop with just a hint of a deeper side, this one’s been out for a while but Guetta still pleases (in small doses).
• 12. Les Rhythmes Digitales – Sometimes √+
Seriously, drive around with ///BONES and sing this song, I first heard this little classic in the Justice Essential Mix. Computer Club touched it up recently here.
Oh and one more thing: with your support The Dirt has enjoyed the last 14 weeks as the most popular segment we’ve run and as a result, we get a pretty healthy amount of downloads. We exist to serve the scene and keep you, our loyal reader, up on what we’re currently enjoying but we exist first and foremost to serve the artists themselves. As a result, The Dirt will from here on out preview everything for you in lower quality 192 kbps and officially encourage you to get the full quality 320s from our dear friends at beatport. And of course we always appreciate your input, comment and let us know what you think.
All my best to your and your week,
