Covers and Remixes

After asking readers last week to define ‘banger’ and ‘mixtape’, let’s kick off the week and ask the audience,
What’s the difference between a cover and a remix?
I’ve picked the following three jams to help spark some discussion.
¡BONUS STAGE!
Honestly, no surprises here but a solid remix nonetheless.

a remix is any alteration of an original song – there is no limit to this, and the remixer can change as little or as much as he/she chooses.

a cover is another rendition of a previously released song

i've always been under the impression that a remix utilized at least some original component or sound, whether big or small, from the original mix. i feel like this holds true for almost every remix on my computer and makes sense since normally for remix competitions they distribute the original components or vocals. covers i generally assume are entirely reproduced with no sampling. in other news i'm really disappointed with this effort by jack beats after the youtube videos made it look so epic. the the major zero remix i copped from the fellas over at ilictronix definitely delivers tho. and dave, please no.

What matt said. Seems to me like Sleepyhead is a cover since it doesn't use any elements of the original song as far as I can tell, the Boy 8-Bit Mars track is a remix since it does use elements of the original, and Night Vision is a cover since it doesn't use any elements of the original. And the Jack Beats remix is a remix of course.

I don't know, I'd say that a remix is a song that samples the original track.
A cover may use attributes from the original like riffs, lyrics etc but not samples.
